yeah murders are up in alot of places, in miami's liberty city neighborhood, a city of about 19,000-25,000( last pop stats i can find are 2000, so i and just guessing) has had 8 murders so far.
So the murder rates are at:
Chicago- 15 per 100,000
Los Angeles- 7.8 per 100,000
New York City- 5.04 per 100,000
Can you site a source for that please? Or at lest show us how you came up with the math that Chicago's murder rate is 15 people per 100,000. That seems like quite a jump, even for 2008's level.
I'd like to see your calculations or a source please. Thanks

Chicago
2,836,658/100,000 = 28.36658 (this is the number of groups of 100,000 people in the population)
428/28.36658 = 15.08817771 (This is the murder rate per 100,000 people)
Los Angeles
3,849,378/100,000= 38.49302
302/38.49302= 7.8455 = murder rate per 100,000
New York
8,274,527/100,000= 82.74527
417/82.74527= 5.039
Does Chicago have the most murders of any city so far this year in the US??
Yes, the most total murders, but not the highest murder rate. Places like New Orleans are up to murder rates of over 60 per 100,000. Washington DC is around 26 per 100,000, Baltimore is around 27.9 per 100,000, Oakland is around 24, etc... so Chicago does not have the highest rate, it falls sort of middle of the pack among big cities.
Detroit Police Department does not give year to date numbers. They keep the information all to themselves and then release it at the end of the year.
In my opinion, this is a disservice to the residents and prevents the residents from being able to challenge the police department from doing a better job in the middle of the year. For example, now that all of Chicago knows about how many murders they have, there will be more of an emphasis on fighting crime and making the city safer NOW rather than waiting until the end of the year.
Detroit may very well be ahead of Chicago, but nobody will know until the end of the year.
