oh ok well If you come try to spend some time outside of the Quarter or the CBD. Those areas are overrated and cliche, and represent anything in the city. BR and NO are like night and day lol.. Maybe I should come to Philly during Mardi Gras season.

It's nothing like Mardi Gras here so if you like Mardi Gras there don't come here looking for an equivalent...matter of fact as usual things got out of control here a few years back with partyers so they actually started setting more limits on things here now. I think the bars even have limited hours then.

The closest thing to Mardi Gras here is New Years...they've got the mummer's in their costumes and all day parties, that's about it.

As for coming to LA,it wasn't exactly on my list of must visit places for various reasons but I'm game and being the adventurer that I am I'm willing to wander into parts unknown there. Hell if I can do Philly I can do pretty much anywhere!

People here leave to get away during mardi gras. Everything closes and tourists flood in. If you do stay you usually go to family oriented parades or other spots away from Bourbon and the more crazy parts.

Anything surrounding New Orleans. The city is surrounded by wetlands or water on all sides so as soon as the city stops the water and marsh start. It's umm peaceful, thats the only way I can describe since I only see it when I'm leaving town. on the westbank you can go south down Barataria and do the Lafitte swamp tour thing. Oh yea and every now and then cars hit Alligators crossing the I-10.
hope thats exciting enough for ya.. all I could think of.

Sell me on Philly.
