Some women (especially young and under 40) aged women in the South speak with this really "whiny" dialect. Examples : The Dixie Chicks.

There are lots of ways to speak "Southern", I'm just referring to this Texas-esque "twang"-it kind of grates on me, don't know why. What accents do you like and dislike?

A thick New York accent or deep Midwestern where they talk through their noses. I do like a Boston or upper New England accent though. Far different from New York. And I know some folks with that twang you speak of. Gets on my southern nerves at times too.

I don't hate any accent.
I like it when a person has an accent. The general American accent is dull and overrated if you ask me.

I loooove British accents. And of course I have to add my accent to the list. I say that because it's comforting to hear people with the same accent as me, since it means I'm home (I lived elsewhere for a couple years and didn't like it at all). I don't like southern accents.

For US domestic accents, I can't think of a favorite. But I really don't like the New York/New Jersey accent, and the Boston accent is worst of all. Something about it is like nails on a chalkboard to me, plus I have a very hard time understanding it.

How can someone with a name such as yours dislike anything about Boston? I appreciate the southern accent here, but damn, Boston IS America! Love that city more every time I visit.

I dislike the Southern Accent, sometimes I do not understand what they are saying.

The New Yawk accent is music to my ears so I love the New Yawk accent.

My favorite is the ghetto New York accent, that's my accent for the most part, its very different from that strong New York accent that irritates people for some reason. The ghetto Philly accent is #2 on my list (it has a lot of similarities with the ghetto NY accent). The Southern accent is #3 as it doesn't come out of Paula Deen's mouth (she over does it), the Cali accent is #4 (Cal Newman, Too Short, etc.). #5 is that mob boss NYC/Italian accent, #6 is the Dakota accent.
