Friends, a few questions?

I'm contemplating a move to the Dawsonville area for a job transfer. I'm a single guy age 44. Would rather live in a larger town than Dawsonville to be honest.

I've done Google Maps for Cumming and Gainesville. I like going to local bars, am interested in joining a church, hope to find a gym--overall pretty active guy and would not want the isolation of a very small town. BUT, I don't want a long drive to work each day.

What would you suggest?

Hi there....I understand what you are saying. I am 41 and Single.
I live in Cumming (since 1999...moved from VA) and believe that would be the best bet for you.
It's closer to much more things to do and is growing quickly.
I am also a Real Estate investor and can give you some tips on where to find the real estate deals if you are interested.

Good luck!

Rick

You could live in Alpharetta/north Fulton and do the reverse commute up 400 to Dawsonville. It's 30+ miles but you shouldn't hit any traffic and you'd be living in a much more populated and busy area. I know you don't WANT to drive, but 30-40 minutes with no traffic isn't a huge commute.

I agree with Neil0311----the reverse commute would be pretty easy up to D'ville from anywhere along the Hwy 400 corridor, north of Exit 10. Alpharetta and Johns Creek and Milton are all kind of spread out and while the commute once on 400 would be easy, you're still going to have a heck of a time on the access roads. The city of Cumming is the closest to Dawsonville and you'd have very little traffic, plus lots of new retail shops and restaurants, just not much of a nightlife. Most of the north Metro Atlanta area are bedroom communities; the real active nightlife is to be found in the city proper.

Dawsonville is very close to the mountains and Lake Lanier (with the water down right now, it's known as Puddle Lanier) and has a great outlet mall, great BBQ places and good churches. Downhome folks, but with surprisingly increasing number of transplants from all over the country.

Good luck on your move and get ready to always be aware of what time of day it is and how to avoid traffic.

According to Spokeo.com, a friend of mine moved to Jewell Station Road in Dawsonville. I've seen his location reported as Dawsonville before, but it never got that specific. Anyone familiar with this road that could tell me what larger road it's off? I can't seem to find it on the maps I'm able to access.
