est. now 2000

Atlanta 519,000 416,000
Augusta 193,000 195,000
Columbus 187,000 185,000
Savannah 125,000 127,000
Athens 111,000 101,000
Roswell 101,000 79,000
Sandy Sprs. 98,000 85,000
Macon 93,000 97,000
John's Creek 83,000 63,000
Albany 75,000 76,000

Interesting enough that Metro Atlanta has 4 of 10 of the states largest cities. Augusta and Columbus is estimated at 6,000 apart and ranked as 2nd and 3rd. Savannah, Athens, and Roswell is the only other cities in the state with 100,000. That's interesting.

Especially since so much of the Atlanta metro is unincorporated suburb (e.g., Vinings, East Cobb, Mableton, etc.) and doesn't count in the stats. Otherwise I'm sure there'd be a few more...

Interesting?
What makes a city is not size but substance.

It's a fairly nice area. I know a few folks who live there, and they seem happy.

Half the states population lives in metro atlanta, yet you're still suprised they have almost half the states top 10 largest cities?

also, athens and augusta have combined gov't, and their city/county populations are a combined statistic.

Hephzibah & Blythe are not consolidated with Augusta- Richmond county. Both have their own govt, schools, fire dept, etc.

But I thought Augusta city pop. was 197,342. What site did this info come from?

I think OP was using outdated info from 2000 as they have in the past.

I agree, that my point i have been trying to make the only reason Augusta, Columbus and Athens Stats are so high is because of consolidated city/county govt's... And for the others it just Atlanta over pour.....It Funny how people consider a city to be larger just because of Pop... When i think of a city to be larger I thought that meant in size.. not POP
But to be honest the correct list by land size not Pop..

Atlanta
Augusta
Columbus
Savannah
Macon
Albany
Athens
Warner Robins..........
