Society also teaches young women that men have no right to consent whatsoever, not to give or withhold it, in other words, that boys cannot say no and have an expectation to have that respected.

I harp on this because of how I know I behaved as a teenage girl, especially in early adolescence. And now I have teenage sons, and I hear about how the girls treat them. I assumed that if I wanted a boy, I could have him, and if he resisted, I just had to be more persistent. There were times that I initiated what I considered to be playful wrestling matches with boys just to be pushier about my sexual intentions toward them. Had I been the male in that interaction, it would be assault. But I was the girl, and no one even thought twice about it. My sons have been bullied by girls, have been harassed by girls.

We need to clear away the gendered garbage surrounding consent. If a PERSON does not want another PERSON to touch them, and does not give a "yes" answer to physical affection, or asks someone to please not do that, then the PERSON needs to respect the space and right that the other PERSON has to their own body.

Society also oversexualizes basic human touch and deprives young people, especially boys, of critical amounts of nonsexual physical contact that are good for basic wellbeing. Society also places unreasonable social consequences on boys for "failing" to "get laid" and stigmatizes them for expressing emotions to the point that they feel almost pressured to pursue emotionless sex.

Society also condones/normalizes violence and stigmatizes sexuality to the point where you would think that our genitals are more dangerous than a military grade arsenal or something.

There are loads of toxic behaviors being taught to our young people. Of all genders. I've known too many males who have suffered destruction of the Self and inability to have healthy relationships, to ever act like we women are the only ones suffering here. I have compassion for all.

21 should be the age of consent. This stupid law where age 18 is age of consent for sex is so very wrong. You are a teenager still for god's sake. This age of consent at 18 was only so that pervert guys and women could have sex with someone so young and not have it be against the law.
Also I'm so sick of hearing that women mature faster then guys...so what if it's true? That doesn't mean that a young woman should be mature enough to have sex with some 30+ year old .....Think about it...someone that old wanting to have sex with someone so young really shows their immaturity level...very sad.

What about two 16 year olds who want to have sex with each other?

Most sexually active teens I know, have had other teenage partners, and did not become sexually active when a 30+ year old "pervert" (lol what?) took advantage of them.

I am thinking about it. I've been thinking about it. I was mature enough at 14 to consent to sex. I was not mature enough to consent to serious lifelong relationships. Some people think that sex should only happen inside of serious lifelong relationships. Obviously I do not agree with that.

An older person wanting to have sex with a younger person shows that they are human and have sexual attraction for a beautiful young attractive human. Most people find youth appealing. Personally, I find older people more appealing, but that's just me. Wanting sex with a young (but post-puberty!) person makes you pretty normal. Wanting a RELATIONSHIP with somebody who is a teenager when you are 30+...means that you are not mature, or you are not wise.

This whole train of thought, clearly I've had it before, someone wrote a news story somewhere about David Bowie taking the virginity of some teenage girl at some party. And I thought...you know?...if David Bowie could have showed up when I was like 14 or 15 and done the deed and then vanished in a puff of sparkling smoke, that would have been SO much nicer than the bumbling, fumbling, unskilled teenage boy that I wound up with for my first time... Lucky girl. But the old men who marry young girls? That is terrible. That's like taking a slave.

(And I do not mean the consenting, BDSM kind of slave either.)

Unfortunately, our great-grandparents aren't here to weigh in on this discussion, but I'll pick 15!

I've mentioned this before in other threads like this one. However there is one big difference these days.

The level of maturity of the girls in at that time. They worked just as hard as the adults at that time they also had much more responsibility then teens girls of today.

I think 18 is fine for the age of consent, but there should be a close-in-age exemption to protect cases where the a minor and adult are less than, say, four years apart from each other, thus eliminating idiotic cases where an 18 year old is charged for sleeping with a 16 year old. Though, to be fair, statutory rape cases like these are probably pretty rare compared to the actual number of such relationships.

Two, eliminate, or at least drastically reduce public sex offender registries. These lists bundle predators and child molesters with people convicted of minor crimes (statutory rape, public indecency, even public urination in some states.) Sensational media has led people to believe there's pedophiles around every corner and the term "sex offender" is broadly equated with "rapist" or "child molester" in the minds of many people.

OK, since we have EZ Rent-a-Car, why such a fuss about renting a ride at the Boom-Boom Booty Brothel.
Give me a break. It is the most rational way to approach this discussion. Driving can kill other people that aren't involved. Sex itself cannot. For what it's worth I think brothels should absolutely be legal. I'm sick and tired of the government legislating morality.

Oh an by the way the age of consent in most of Europe is around 14 or 15, like what I said.

In California it is currently 18 I think it is asinine that if you have a 17 and 18 year old that are in a relationship the 18 could be charged with statutory rape. I think the age of consent should be 16 with a stipulation that if one is over 18 now more than a two year span in age. No reason it shouldn't be lawful for a 16 and an 18 year old or a 17 year old and 19 year old. That's my two sense. For those of you that think most kids are waiting to turn 18 in California etc. before they have sex due to the age of consent then you are fools. I think the current laws are draconian.

I've also heard of cases where teenagers have been charged with possession of child pornography - for pictures they took of themselves and maybe shared with other teenagers around the same age.

In my opinion, child pornography charges should only be brought if all three conditions are met:

-The subject of the pornography is under 18 (this is already in force)
-The viewer is 15 or older
-The viewer is at least four calendar years (1,461 days) older than the subject. This way we don't get charges for something like an 18 year old getting charged because he has X rated pictures of his 16 year old girlfriend.

I don't agree. I think that nude or explicit sexual images of young people should be discouraged in the strongest possible terms.

It's not about a boyfriend who is trusted and loved having an image of his girlfriend, it's about the fact that the person who authorized that image, isn't mature enough to really get the gravity of the potential consequences of its existence. The likelihood of him sharing it with others, or even having his phone stolen or hacked and the image taken without his ok, and that picture could go anywhere. Did she consent to an entire high school seeing her nude? Did she consent to it getting out permanently onto the internet? Once it's out, it's out.

Now this wouldn't be such a big deal, except that our stupid Puritanical culture holds nude images and sexuality to be dirty, filthy, worth snickering and judging people over. So the real life, real world consequences? She could be denied jobs. Wanted to be a schoolteacher one day? Forget it! Men who have seen it, out in the world, might think they can stalk her, harass her or violate her space or her person. The bigger piece of the problem is that we do live in a society that, while it wants women to be sexual, also wants to see us punished and suffering for it.

Don't believe me?

I saw an article on Facebook not long ago about an MMA fighter who broke into his ex girlfriend's apartment and beat her to within an inch of her life. She will be permanently disabled and disfigured now. He almost blinded her for life, with the damage he did to her face. He then raped her. He did get a severe sentence, thankfully, mostly because of the brutality of the assault. The comments on this news story, among the first few, was a man asking, "Isn't she a famous porn star?" The answer was, yes. She was. (So, her livelihood is now ruined, on top of everything.) The rest of the comments were HUNDREDS of men and women, mostly men, saying it was her fault for being what she was and that she probably drove him nuts, and his sentence was too severe, etc.

Once it was known that she had shown her sexuality and body to the world, she was less than garbage to these people. No one cared. But I bet all of the men in those comments, love to watch porn, though.

I think that such content should be illegal as heck for anyone under 25 to produce. You can't trust anybody with it, especially not American society. You had better have a mind capable of really understanding what you're doing, fully developed frontal lobes, before you do such a thing. Unless one day our culture gets to be far more sex positive than it is.
