You can't have these professions becoming popularized or glamorized. What do you want society to do? Suddenly have the schools teach children to choose these professions because it's a valid way to make money and have a career?
Why not? How is being a stripper morally any worse then becoming a corporate lawyer, working for a pharma company or running an investment bank? People don't lose their home, or become addicted to pain medication because they saw a womans boobs.
I'm genuinely curious. They're legal professions. Many jobs are so low paid and porn is a way for people (especially women,) to make a lot of money much easier than slaving away doing low paid work or getting into excessive amounts of student loan debt, with no guarantee of a payoff at the end. We tell people to work hard, support themselves, don't depend on others, don't depend on welfare, avoid debt, etc. . . So what's wrong with them really?
I think it has to do with the underlying fact that these activities are rooted in the exploitation of women for men's baser instincts (yes, women watch porn too, and there are male strippers, blah blah blah, but by and large, men are the biggest consumers of porn and strip clubs). I don't agree that women in those professions should be considered "less than" as human beings because of what they do; as a matter fact, their professions exist because there are those who want only to see them as objects of sexual desire, as less than who they might be.

No one in this thread even remotely suggested such a thing.

Ha, yes, I'd trust a stripper to tell me the truth before I would a politician!
It's not necessarily "what" they do as a profession, it's "who" they are in general..
Look at the character of Stormy Daniels. A supposedly extremely "successful" adult entertainment star, but she chooses to engage in Blackmail.
So do givernments, banks, iawyers, nsurance companies, finance companies and your employer. To say nothing of coercion and legal methods designed to separate a legal owner from their property.
Sounds like Ms. Daniel's is a step up from those "honest" professions, because it least it's in public, not hidden away in smoky back rooms (which given the topic is highly ironic).
I haven't read the entire thread, but I think such dislike/scorn arises from many reasons, including:
1. Jealousy (porn stars usually have better bodies than average)
2, Because they see it as "sinful"
3. Because they are envious of good money for comparatively "easy" work
4. Because they show it as a sign that such people don't have enough intelligence to do anything else
5. Because some women might think that such women aid in the perception of women being primarily sex objects
6. Because they think it might lead to adultery (even if only in the form of "lust in the heart")

And probably many more reasons, too!
I hardly think people are jealous of women in the porn industry. *ick*
People who aren't religious think it's pretty gross too, you know.
Name 1 parent that says: I really hope Sara grows up to be in porn. It's such a wonderful industry, the way she'd be bent over backwards, manhandled and humiliated on camera. Oh, and those gang bang scenes? So artistic. I think grandma would really love them.
Good grief. Get over it already. It's porn. It's degrading. The women who participate have issues.

I would feel just as bad if I raised a son and he grew up and became addicted to porn. I would see that as a problem.
My husband told me several men at his company had been fired for looking at porn on their computer at work. That's an addiction problem.
Lots of people think it's gross, but it's a billion dollar industry, so it can't be that gross.
And since a lot of porn is, you know, images and films of men and women, it's not just women in the porn industry.

I think I've heard it all on these boards.
I think you misunderstood my intention, LOL. I was certainly NOT defending porn, but the question was why is it viewed negatively? And as far as jealousy, I was referring to better bodies, even though they might be fake. (And, btw, I really dislike fake boobs, lip enhancements, etc., but that is personal preference, i think.)
And, also btw, I am a 65-year-old grandmother, so I think your attempt to read my mind and my intentions failed miserably.
But, yes, I do agree that it IS degrading (and in many cases disgusting), and I do NOT approve of it, which is what I thought I made clear in a couple of reasons I listed in my post.
