To some extent we are. I know a lot of people like to think nothing untoward goes on at a strip joint, just a bunch of nice, hopefully pretty, girls dancing around without their clothes on. That's not always the reality. According to the girls I knew there was plenty going on in the private rooms, the parking lot, and offsite (against club rules) that might have been a step above street walking. None of it 'regulated' and a lot of it that would make me worry about STD's or worse. These are women who have rent to pay, kids to feed, and usually a drug habit to support, they aren't too picky about what or who they do to earn some extra over the dance tips.

Fundamentally how is prostitution any different from a woman who dates or marries a man for his wealth?

Whether a spouse is rich or not, most marriages are about improving one's financial status, especially for wives who usually earn less than their husbands. Love is nice and all, but marriage offers more financial benefits than anything else.

Trading sex for money is at the core of many relationships. Prostitution takes this same arrangement and makes the transaction period much shorter.

I fundamentally see no problem with this arrangement as long as both parties understand the nature of the relationship. Its why I see no moral issue with prostitution.

Are people with mental health issues to be looked down on now?

Ok there are dirty clubs. Nowhere near all clubs of course. Especially these days with the crack down on human trafficking and most of the prostitution websites being shutdown. There are also people in the corporate world having affairs on office desk and sleeping their way to the top.

And those are generally looked down on too, when they are found out. Nowhere to the same degree of course, but in general I think people are unaccepting of others doing things that cross a particular boundary. Having sex with multitudes of random random strangers (for money or not) is seen by most people as more unacceptable than having affairs.

Of course times are changing with the likes of Stormy Daniels being front page news and Kim Kerdashian blowing up the internet with naked photos of herself so maybe making a career out of using your body to make money will become more accepted?

I say to each their own but if I had a daughter I would not want her to be part of that world no matter how much money she made.

It is not pretty being devious......but someone has to do it.

Something like that.

Imagine the looks I got from a room full of people when I "confessed" of proposing that the strike team be composed of those people of the ethnicity of those who usually worked custodial jobs and be dressed as sort. Why? Because such people are not likely to be "seen" by the employees of a company, the strike team would achieve a kind of invisibility, and the police would not get much information when they questioned witnesses. (there is a defense to this tactic but no need to go into it here)

It's "terrible" that I think like that but when I am working police/intelligence, that is exactly how I think, to achieve the maximum advantage exploiting peoples' vulnerabilities.

Or being a spy where in the midst of an operation, I come across the secret lives of people I know and then have to continue to interact with them in reality as if I don't know.

It's all legal, more or less (who knows what laws the politically correct might have passed) but most people would think it quite distasteful.

As far as porn goes, I have been told, "Tamara, it would not surprise me if I found out you had been in a porn flick.". Not necessarily a compliment........but then again, it may be for a professional acting friend, someone else, once said as well, "Tamara, I can never tell when you are acting and when you are not.". That my personalty is that hard to analyze is a compliment.

Show a lot of skin for one's sensual entertainment or even worse, money, and not everyone is likely to understand. As a belly dancer, I know this. As a belly dancer, there are those who see us as nothing but strippers and probably do not understand. After all, in years past, one of my brothers would not let my show my, then, young step nephew and niece pictures of my dance sisters.

I suppose we all have our limits to how far we will go......what is troublesome is that there are so many who impose their limits upon others. I suppose it is for the feeling of control over others.

I live in Las Vegas where it's not that unusual to know people who do these things. I know 2 strippers. One is now a lawyer. She didn't come from a rich family so that's how she got her law degree. The other is now retired. She quit at 40 and tends bar part time to have something to do. They are both nice people and live pretty much like the rest of us.

Most of the McJobs available won't pay rent. Much less rent, expenses, and school. So they got jobs that paid more. These 2 are now living the American Dream. They used what they had and made the most of it. I wouldn't encourage my kid to become a stripper or a porn star but I would understand the economics of why they might make that choice.
