If you seek to have power over your fellow man, you're already on the road to "crookery". You should not want to have power over anyone, or want anyone to have power over you. Self-determination.

Default Report: 4 Problems That Could Sink America

Thought this was a very good article, particularly the first problem which makes me thinkg, have we as American's had it too easy? Yeah, the American Dream seemed like it was attainable with just hard work and perseverance, now we're losing the middle class.

WPA like projects, it helped get us through the post depression era. There was even work for artist and craftsmen. We could invest in the crumbling infrastructure, tear down every abandoned house in the nation, restore nature areas. I'm sure high tech people could be used in green jobs, and health care,

It looks suspiciously like the reasons Marx and Lenin used to defend their idea.

For those wondering, the article listed:

We don't like to work
Nobody wants to sacrifice
We're uninformed

There are still at least a few people that find hard work to be a positive characteristic.

Thrifty lefty's idea is far too simple. It might actually work but for the "wrong" people. It might actually allow some of the poor to become working class with real earned income. That would not be good because if they became workers who would the right wing elite have to kick around.

I once heard that Army recruiting ads are a reliable predictor of America's intentions to throw our weight around in some hapless country. Current recruiting ads are very touchy-feely, suggesting that we're entering a non-belligerent phase. War is good for the economy, and peace bad.

In order for the laid off secretaries, car salesmen, executives and construction workers to get jobs mowing lawns, cleaning dishes and making change for burgers there has to be enough people with disposable income to hire them to mow their lawns and clean their houses. There has to be enough restaurants staying in business that can hire them to make change for burgers and wash dishes. When people who used to support these businesses by making salaries that allowed some disposable income start going into minimum wage jobs they won't have anymore extra cash to go out to eat, hire domestic help, buy things at local stores, etc. Majority of these unskilled labor jobs that many posters on this thread are pushing on everyone unemployed come from service sector. Without a healthy pool of customers with some disposable income there isn't much demand for those to sell, clean, wash, cook, repair, landscape and make change.
