Is that what you uninsured people want? Cause that is what is going to happen. If you can't afford it now , how are you going to pay the fine? I have not heard what is going to cost yet? That is like me selling you my house and after you agree to buy it, then I'll tell you how much you owe me.

For some reason, the gubbernmint is too damned dumb to figure out what this will do. What will happen is that those who can't afford health insurance will do one of two things: they will become criminals because they can't afford insurance, will be 'fined' (which they can't afford either) and default on the fine (thus becoming criminals). Of course, this is not going to get them any closer to health care. Great plan. The other option is that they will simply go on welfare since they do not have enough money to cover everything. In this case, they will probably get health care, but will have been forced into becoming another welfare recipient. Again, a great plan--take someone who was supporting himself/herself and force said person into living off the tax dollar. Brilliant all the way around. Yeah, a truly inspired plan we have here.

Too bad someone can’t come up with something that is worth a damn. But then again, we don’t exactly have rocket scientists in control, do we? I’ll tell you what needs to happen first. First we need to decide if we, as a country, are going to commit to a health care plan of some sort or not. Until we collectively decide that, we will continue to get half baked bilking schemes, which get no one who didn’t have insurance in the first place any closer to health care than they were before. I think the government should shove their 'fines' idea where the sun doesn’t shine and come up with something that demonstrates an IQ beyond that of a dead goat. They are trying to jam swill down our throat.

SCGRANNY is thinking about the long term cost of care for everyone, not just herself. She also understands the concept that when the government steps in and makes something "free" there are always strings attached.

She probably gets better service with less aggravation by paying out of pocket.

Never in a million years would we have such high health care costs if people paid for their routine care out of pocket.

Agreed, they say Las Vegas will be at 17% unemployment by next year. I guess Greatday's idea of just getting a another job is easier said than done.

Well then bubba - I guess all those being HIRED at City Center have been lied to -

And, as I previously mentioned - the casino is but only ONE part of the project hiring

Your motto is: Oh Whoa is Me!

Disgusting

My God, you sound exactly like my dad, especially with the bolded statement on the bottom. He used to say the same exact thing to me. I have no interest in working for the MGM Grand company, ok? I would like to get a second job, and keep my main job. I have looked for the same types of jobs I use to get, and have had no luck. You are right that I have officially given up. Remember, I DO have a full time job that I do love, other than the low pay, and the fact they offer no benefits. I love the fact that I work by myself, with no one around. I do not have a boss on my back. I literally sit in an office building all night, watch television, and sit on the internet (I am at work right now). They recently even put cable television, a DVD player, and a flat panel television for us. I am not giving up this job for a higher paying one that I will end up hating. I have been there 3 years now, and am used to a stress free job. I used to have similar jobs being an in home nursing assistant, where I made a lot more money because of unlimited overtime. Now none of them will hire me any more. I have tried and tried. They are interested, as I have lots of experience, but once they find out about the DUI, they decline me. This happens every single time, so why bother anymore?

The article is not about homelessness. It is about good, hardworking people who are now being screwed over by the economy.

I am glad I brought up my dad, as we can get back to topic. My dad is a victim to our broken healthcare system. My dad owned his own company in Phoenix, Az in which he made oak cabinets for new houses. He was very successful in the beginning, but towards the late 90's he was not doing so well. He only had one worker, and was doing the installing himself which was very hard on him, especially in the summer with the heat. He could not afford health insurance for himself and my mother since he was self employed, and had lots of expenses. He started getting sick in early 1999. He wanted to see a doctor, but he had filed bankruptcy before already, and did not want to get into any more debt, so he let it go. Sure enough, in June of 1999, I got a call from my mother who was hysterical. She told me he had just finished a job, and collapsed. He died of a massive heart attack that day at only 47 years old. After the autopsy, we were told he would still be alive if he had been treated earlier. Just another victim.
