We changed out our lightbulbs.
We use re-usable shopping bags at the grocery store.
I take all of my read magazines to the hospital to be used there.
We read the newspaper online now.
We combine errands and plan routes.
My husband and I go get haircuts at the same time to save a trip.
When I make meals I try to make one for right then and one for the future and freeze it.

I got an extra wood stove this year so we pretty much heat entirely with wood. I am also installing next year a heat exchanger on the wood stove to produce hot water for showers, dishwasher, etc very cheap DIY project.
Instead of buying some processed wood every year I am clearing all the dead wood off 20 acres or so myself which will allow all the smaller trees to grow better and all the wood ash goes into a 1 acre garden. I am not eating anything not grown within 20 miles of here preferably 20ft to 2 miles.
Thermostat hasn't been above 58 since Nixon told us to turn it down. I take all my solar powered lights that I use in the summer and put them in a box on the porch facing south. They can't be used in the winter with the snow cover. They charge all day and you can use them at night in the house. They make great night lights and light up a room (dimly) with them. Never heard of using them that way but kinda occurred to me one day when they were in the box to be put away and I looked outside one night and the light bulb went off lol.
A Prius wouldn't last me a year so I have been taken the ATV with a trailer to the dump to save gas. I can do 20 trips on a gallon. I do a world of things to save money, I guess that's being green? I guess no vacations in 17 years have saved some carbon not that I wanted one lol.
Let's see I will never fly in a plane, or go on a motor yacht... Otherwise the acre of vegetables should shed some carbon.
Can't think of anything else right now but I will keep thinking...
edit: Ok it seems the insurance companies will have nothing to do with the heat exchange for a wood stove - so nix that ideere.

I re-read that and that is a great idea... Even the local library - or at least ours; update those life magazines and national geographic from the 70's....
Be mindful of old fashioned values that many of us were raised with. Such as don't use more than you need, reuse things, mend things, stay away from over-packaging, don't be wasteful, don't buy stuff you don't need, don't s**t where you sleep (figuratively speaking).
Gluttony of any kind used to be just plain bad manners.
Truthfully, some of this green stuff is unnecessary and ridiculous. It just makes people feel better because they THINK they're doing something, and it makes them feel superior.
I try to recycle as much as I can (the recycle bin), and I traded in my Saturn Vue for a Toyota Prius. I like to buy used furniture, the kind that has the company name branded on it and says Made in America.
Unplug devices when you are not using them or connect them to a power strip and flick the switch. The biggest waste is the millions of cell phone chargers that are left plugged in all the time.

I don't like all those little lights on this and that - it bugs me... I took out the little light on the directtv box thingy...
