My family and I are thinking about moving to the Greensboro area. My husband's job would be near the Piedmont Triad airport. We are looking for a rental house in the suburbs (within 20 mins. or so of the airport). We have child in elementary school and want to be in a good school district. If the move becomes permanent, we would like to purchase a house in the same school district we are renting in, as to not have to move our child to another school ($200,000 to $300,000 house). We so far have been looking in the Oak Ridge area. But are open to other suggestions, as there doesn't seem to be a lot of rental houses available there (I am searching using Realtor.com).

We are also interested in knowing what the Greensboro area has to offer as far as music, art and community activities. What kind of bike paths does the city have? Is there hiking by? How are is it to skiing areas? How far is it to the beach? Google maps, can't factor in traffic, so is that a problem when travelling to these places.

Thanks!

You'll be happy with the proximity to skiing and beaches. I go to Mt. Airy to the mountains (not to ski because I can't) and it is a bout 1 hour and 45 minutes. Beach is about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Oak Ridge is nice, so is Summerfield, Browns Summit and other areas. I would advise you to get in touch with some local rental management firms to see about rentals - there's even one great one that represents you to find a place for a small fee I think.
