Default May be moving to the Winston-Salem area.

My family and I may be moving to the Winston-Salem area for a better job. We're looking at the cost of living and it seems that Lexington may be the cheapest. Just looking for any advice about the area for a family of five.

If you're interested in cheapest...look also at Yadkin County, southern Stokes, or northern Davidson County. The area in southestern Forsyth is relatively afforadable, and is growing fast around the Union Cross area.

I don't recommend going to Lexington. You will probably have more job opportunities and stuff to do in Winston-Salem. Plus, I have heard the schools aren't as good. We are in North Davidson county and our address comes up Lexington, but we are only about 10 miles to downtown Winston-Salem. We do everything in Winston-Salem, but the taxes are lower, you tend to get more house for the money, we have great schools, low crime, quiet and very close to everything you need. I could be wrong, but in our situation everything we need and do, including work is in Winston-Salem. The only time it feels out of the way is when you have to go to the north end near Peace Haven, Robinhood area and that isn't even too bad. Good luck.

When we moved in to W-S from out of state 6 years ago, we feel like we got really lucky finding our subdivision in Clemmons. We are on the south side of town, about 1 mile north of the Davidson county line and just a couple of miles west of the Davie county line. We love love love our location.....in the country, in a subdivision, 10-15 minutes from just about anything in Winston, but we have everything we need right here in Clemmons. If we would do it again, we would probably look just across the county line in either direction, simply as we're ridiculously close to both and would only benefit from cheaper property taxes by doing so. That said, we still love it right where we are.

I love your area too! It is so nice being on the outskirts of the city, but still close to it all. Across the street from us the addresses come up Clemmons, but our house is Lexington. How I wish our address was Clemmons instead! People always assume I live far away because of the Lexington address even though I am way closer to Clemmons and Winston-Salem.
