No, I am in no way saying that the police should turn a blind eye toward infractions or laws broken by local owners. However there is a difference when the Fire Marshal walks into your place of business four times in one night which apparently is what was happening last night.
Also when SLED and city police go to extreme measures and great lengths in tricking a bar owner to serve an underage person I think that is uncalled for. If a place is serving people underage as a practice or have a bartender or two who are doing it, it should not be hard to bust that bar owner and should not require what could be considered entrapment.
Everybody goes over the speed limit from time to time but those who are dangerous and reckless will soon make themselves apparent. However if there is a cop on your bumper every time you leave the house and pulls you over every time you go a mile over the speed limit you might get the impression that city officials might not want you driving at all.

Grandfather used to have a sayin "Hit Dog Hollers". Why the heck woul the fire marshal come in 4 times in one night unless there was a question of whether the law was being obeyed or not. If there are no infractions who cares how many times he comes in.
The one establishment where the fire marshal made this statement has never had a over occupancy violation and the fire marshal was making a point of doing this to all the bars downtown on friday night.

Now it appears that your friend's bar was not being targeted, but that the Fire Marshal was just doing his job. Well done.
My comment was never to imply that any one person was being harassed, rather that an entire industry was being harassed.
There are some places Down Town that have been operating outside of the law for a good while now and nothing was done until things started getting out of hand, and now it would seem that the Fire Marshal is being used as a tool of harassment.
So actually No, nobody was doing their job. Minors were being served at more than one bar and this was a known fact but it continued unchecked for months and months. Laws regarding drink specials were being broken and occupancy laws were being ignored and all this happening by the same couple of establishments.
Now I suppose that complaints were finally made after things had gotten out of hand and now the city is harassing the entire industry because those who were supposed to be doing their jobs were not.
