I have noticed former Rite Aid locations in Spartanburg have been converted to Walgreen's. However in Charlotte they have remained Rite Aid with a Walgreen's Pharmacy. Perhaps the Rite Aid brand fared better in the Charlotte region and they are not yet ready to totally eliminate the name. So they use both names in the branding.

I was in that area last week for first time in a long time and didn't know they had actually converted that Rite Aid to Walgreens across from the mall. You would think that would be a good location for them with all the retail traffic in the vicinity. Ironic that back in the 70' and 80's most malls usually had a pharmacy inside of the mall that usually stayed fairly busy. Eckerd/Rite Aid thrived for a long time around the mall.

Walgreens acquired some of the former Eckerd/Rite Aid stores in the Upstate. And you are correct, for years Eckerd was an anchor store in most malls in the Southeast, usually a nice large store with the lunch counter.

Walgreen's #17343 is in a visible location. I wonder if operational expenses and/or decreased sales could contribute to the store closing.
The store on South Church Street was scheduled to open this month. No other details are known.
Knowing Piggly Wiggly has failed in Spartanburg County twice, one wonders if it is getting its act together, or if it will step aside.
