My wife and I are looking seriously at a home in Easley. It's on a typical residential street that is part of a home owners' assn, and there are covenants we haven't reviewed yet, and we will, but I'll ask my question here, now, since there are so many of you on this forum who know so much more about real estate matters than I do!
The driveway is a typical one-car-width gravel drive, perpendicular to the street. There is a drainage ditch and culvert (I'd estimate 12-15" diam) along the street beneath the first 6' or so of paved driveway, and then it's gravel up to the house.
We have a 30' travel trailer, which I can back into any place I need to back it into. [I may not be able to use my cell phone but I was definitely born with the truck-backing gene!]
But we would like to widen the first 10' or so of driveway from the street, at our expense, of course.
The house is in the Easley post office area, and is part of Anderson County even though Easley spans Anderson and Pickens counties. I don't know yet from the survey plat if it's in the incorporated part of Easley, but I suspect it is not.
Who would have jurisdiction over the work we'd need to do to widen the driveway, and especially to add 5-10' of culvert beneath the widened surface? City? County? HOA?
We'll check ourselves, of course, but like I said, I'd bet some of you out there would have good ideas too!
We too are in easley (anderson county side. I would call the anderson county. If u r in anderson county I do not think you have anything to do with the city of easley. I hope u will enjoy it as much as we have.
I think you should probably contact the HOA first. They may have restrictions on driveway alterations that could render moot whatever the county would say.
