the 44 is in an ankle holster and is a last ditch weapon if needed. if that revolver is needed, then I wanted a nice large cartridge.
Fair enough, but the expanded .44 slug is no larger than the expanded .45 slug, and the recoil/muzzle-blast/flash penalty certainly is. Velocity is a moot point, terminally, below about 1800fps, so what's the logic? Bear country and need the penetration?

The 44mag has a higher rate of incapacitation than the 45acp.
Doesn't matter, the 44mag does not produce energy less than 800 ft lb (from Ballistic101,com). The 45acp can put a big hole in you but a 44mag blast a hole in you. They do more tissue damages.

Google .44 "special". It's a .44 magnum "short" if you will for lack of a better term. Like 10mm and .40 S&W.
