I went to a high end salon and there are good and bad there. Hairdressers just rent a chair in most salons.
I now see someone who was recommended by my colorist and he saw her cut all types of hair on men and women. She is just as good as my old hairdresser at the pricey salon but $50 less.
But you can get cheaper cuts at the 'junior salons' of the high end salons who train apprentices, then the apprentices go to the junior salon and eventually the main salon.
20 yrs ago I started with the junior stylist at the best salon in town. Still with her. She is now pricey but worth it. I will pay good $$ for a good haircut.
Many years ago, I went to a pricey salon with a male stylist who took a long time. He said I was worth it, and I said, “but are you?” Bottom line is, he was not.
