Where would you prefer to live (assume you didn't have to work and were financially secure) ... in a condo in the Diamond Head area of Oahu ... or in a condo on West Maui (Lahaina, Kaanapali area) ... and why would you choose that location?

Yeah, I know there are plenty of other desirable areas to live on both islands, but just stick with those two.

Thanks

Well, if I don't have to work and I'm financially secure, how about a condo at each location?

If I had to pick I prefer Maui, easily the #1 island for me - a nice balance of a relaxing pace with enough options for nitelife/restaurants/entertainment

The market on Oahu has been on fire since this past Spring - it happened quickly with price jumps and low inventory. Rents are quickly going up also. A year ago, it was a buyers market - now, totally turned around.

In Kailua, where I live, the average listing price is up $100,000 since 1 year ago - the median sales price up 15% year over year, and avg sq ft price also up 15%

Prices are up in Kauai too. My place has appreciated in value about 100K since November of 2011.

I'd go with the Diamond Head (Gold Coast) condo. I love the variety of activities, restaurants and hustle/bustle offered by the city. Which is why I did choose Waikiki for my condo purchase. But at some point in the future, I could see myself transitioning to a slower pace and Lahaina would be high on my list.

You left out an option for Hawaii Island! <I'm so hurt>

No condo for me, no thanks. too many rules and hostile HOA members for me. A little house with a bit of a view in Kona or any number of our charming small towns - that's the life

I'd choose the Diamond Head condo and vacation on Maui. It's nice up around the Diamond Head area and you can get places without all the highway craziness of Oahu. That is, if those are the only two choices. Otherwise, I'd be on a different island and vacationing on Maui & Oahu.

I'm with KonaKat, I pick a condo....NOWHERE!!!

A home in the middle of some pretty acreage overlooking the water? On Hawai'i? Now you're talking!
