Probably California.
Foodland (and others) are selling local (as in Big Island) milk, though it costs more it is soooooo good. If you don't buy a ton of milk (i.e. don't have kids who drink it constantly), it's well worth it.
I hear there's a dairy starting on Oahu, which will be selling at some of the farmer's markets when they get enough production going. Anyone know about it? I read about it in the Weekly a few months ago... been waiting to hear more.

Meadow Gold is from Hawaii and they have been around for a very long time. Their quality is terrific and it is certainly NOT expensive. Why do so many people think that we do not have a dairy here?

I don't see anywhere on Meadow Gold's packaging, website, etc. where they claim the milk they sell is from Hawaii. Check here: Meadow Gold - Distribution
They have a "dairy processing plant" in Hilo... not the same as the dairy. My impression is that the milk comes in, gets processed (pasturized, skimmed, turned into cottage cheese, what have you) there. It's not the same as milk from cows that live on BI.
I think their line of "Viva" products are marketed as "Island Fresh," which (to me) means the other stuff is not... right?

The last two dairies in the entire state are both on the island of Hawaii. One along the Hamakua coast and one up in Kohala. All the milk they produce gets drank by folks in Hawaii, I don't think any of it gets exported. The rest of the dairy products get shipped in mostly from California, but they just had a big flap late last year/early this year and may be shutting down a lot of the dairies. So, milk may be cheap for now, but dunno if it will stay that way. Hopefully a dairy on Oahu, Maui and Kauai will happen at some point.

7.00 a gallon for organic milk in Olympia, WA today. Non organic stuff was still 5.50. And I thought it would cost more in Hawaii?

Do you really want to save money? DON'T BUY MILK. It is bad for you anyway(yes even skim). Get your calcium and vitamins other ways(fruits/veggies....). Yes I am serious.
