My dog got into a bottle of Aleve and a bottle of supplements. The supplements are plastic capsules, and the Aleve are the coated yellow ones. None are damaged, only a few have a tooth mark. Can I just rinse them all off with hot water or do I need to use a cleaner? I'm not throwing the pills away, so please don't anyone suggest that. Thanks.

You can't clean them. As soon as they are hit with direct contact of water/something wet, they begin to disintegrate. The wetter they get, the more they disintegrate. The yellow on the Aleve is a coating that exists so that the pill can dissolve slowly. Water will wash that coating away, and the pill will no longer be able to function the way it is intended to function. Capsules are designed to disintegrate in water; that is how they work.

If you try to wash them they will turn into mush and you'll have to throw them away. Either take them as is, with dog germs on them, or throw them away. Your dog ruined your pills. Your dog's health SHOULD be a little more important than five or ten bucks worth of OTC pain reliever and supplement.

How did he even get to them? Don't you keep them in a cabinet, or on a high shelf where the dog can't reach them?

If you don't like that answer, try this answer:

Sarcasm alert: Put all the pills in a bowl. Fill the bowl with scalding hot water. Add half a cup of bleach, a tablespoon of baking soda, a tablespoon of lemon juice, a teaspoon of ammonia, and a teaspoon of vinegar. Make sure you're wearing gloves and a gas mask while you do this. Then watch the smoke, and then watch the foam rise and spill out of the bowl as the liquid dissolves the pills. THEN - throw it all away.

Clean them?

I would just brush/blow them off, put them back in their bottles and take them as normal.....but that's just me.

What a strange questions... If you let your dog lick your mouth like soooo many people do, then just take the pills. If you don't then throw them out and get new ones.

I suggest you use bleach on them...that way you know their clean..you never know what your has had in his mouth.

Are you really that cheap that you won't go buy another bottle? Aleve is cheap for goodness sake.....but, if you like dog spit..carry on.

Yes, clean pills that are coated with water. Thanks for all the criticisms without knowing the whole story. You know what you need to know. Try to help people without criticizing them - that's the point of these forums. I am not throwing the pills away. Good day.

Is the dog ok? You cant wash pills. If they've come incontact with any moisture they're going to disintegrate. If you're ot going to taking them immediately, then toss em. Your reluctance to toss the pills leads me to believe they're a little mpre than otc pillls that you can get at most stores. Hmmm

Good point. Methinks the dog has found his illegal stash.
