Basically, scientists created two drugs (AICAR and GW1516) that remarkably mimicked some of the benefits of exercise.

These two drugs work at a cellular level to burn fat , increase muscle mass, and muscle endurance by up to 44%. It works by genetically reprogramming muscle fibers so that they use energy better and contract repeatedly without fatigue.

Simply put, they figured out what hormones athletic bodies produce and what those hormones do for the body... and then synthesized them! Hence, exercise in a pill!

I love to eat and I have gained a lot of weight since I got married... this would be awsome! Eat what you want and look like an athlete!

Would you take such a pill?

Probably not! What would worry me is what they find out 10-20 years from now about the bad things that happen from such a pill!!

Not until it had become mainstream. I would not take a chance on something new for fear it had a bad side effect.
I've been thinking we should invent a human "kibble". A perfectly balanced diet, sort of like dog food. You eat only that until you get to your desired weight and then maybe just a few days a week to maintain.

LOL-Human Kibble-why not!!!

Nope like Cyn said what happens down the road-we've seen it happen many times. I'd rather a change in lifestyle.

Sounds like a fad and impossible. God forbid people actually got off their fat butt and exercised every once in a while.

But that would take all the fun out of eating. What would we talk about here? What we wet out kibble with.

Default Do the dangers out weigh the benefits?

It gives new meaning to being on the pill!

I would think that it would depend upon how dangerously obese the person was... like gastro-bypass surgery or stomatch binding. If the immediate need was there and the person wanted to take the risk... I don't see a problem with it.

It uses your fat to produce muscle and endurance...I've gained so much weight lately that I would be the strongest man in the world if I took it!

I created this thread out of curiosity. I have researched it and found it fascinating. I go back and fourth with wanting to try it...

Do the dangers of being over-weight... out weigh (no pun intended) the dangers of taking the synthetic hormones? We take synthetic insulin and synthetic human growth hormone.
