Its the Flu but I really think some of the closings just don't make sense. I was listening to the local news which comes from Virginia. A local preschool has a child with a confirmed case. Got sick 6 days ago but by the time they tested him and got the results for the Health dept could report it he is doing better. THey are now closing the preschool. It just seems like that makes no sense and if they are going to test everyone that gets sick they need to find away to get the results sooner.
My last post was a fact, all of it. Too bad people like you will call it fear mongering. Read the history on pandemic visruses, then tell me or anyone else who is concered that we are wrong. I've logged over 62 hours of reading on the subject and fully understand why they are taking this one seriously. You should do the same, before casting judegment on others and the government. They know, this thing will spiral out of control, if it gets into the winter months without containment.
Educate yourself, or get out the way and leave the open discussion for the rest us who wish to hope for the best and plan for the worst.
I don't need someone like you to tell me to "educate myself"...people like you are the problem here and honestly, I don't know what's worse -- people who spread fear such as yourself, or the flu itself.
IMO, fear is a more pervasive problem than the flu. A fearful person is more apt to attract a flu bug because the additional stress further weakens the immune system. Even when a fearful person recovers from the flu, the fear is still there. Fear is a deeper, inner problem, while flu is only a physical problem. I believe it was Churchill or Roosevelt who said, We have nothing to fear but fear itself.
In regard to educating oneself: People will only seek out information on something they have an interest in. Another person telling someone to educate themselves has no power to motivate them. It will fall on deaf ears regardless of the intention behind it.
For those readers who are not familiar with Echinacea, it's an herb with some remarkable qualities. Basically, it promotes a healthyimmunesystem. And who amongst us couldn't use that in these days of stress and various flu bugs (i.e., swine flu)?
I'm one of those types that insists, when possible, on checking out things myself rather than listening to some marketing scam by an individual and/or company. Therefore, I won't mention any particular brands or stores in this post. Besides, it probably varies wildly from state to state.
I've tried using Echinacea at various times for over thirty years. Just to see for myself if this herb had any real, noticeable value, I alternated between NOT taking it and taking it. Indeed, it has been shown to produce remarkably good results!
I prefer the strongest and most direct form of ingestion, which is by liquid extract or tincture. This herb appears to work best after you've ingested it for a few weeks, as it's "power" builds up the immune system. It's NOT an instantaneous remedy or fix-all. But for the last two years, while using this to combat a sinus and lung infection, I noticed I wasn't getting the usually yearly colds or flu, which most people nearly always get!
This isn't the venue for describing in detail what this amazing herb does. For that, there's plenty of info available online. Just use the search function and type in "echinacea". Refer to at least three or four sites to get a more well-rounded knowledge base. There's plenty of product marketing for this, but also lots of well-founded, informative data.
Personally, I use this herb in addition to B-50 complex, zinc (50 mg), vitamin E (200 i.u.), vitamin C (250 mg.) and the once a week beta-carotene (25,000 i.u.). This particular regimen is something I've fine-tuned over a period of many years, so in general terms, it probably will vary considerably for you. Each individual has his or her own levels of need. You'll have to find your own doses on this issue.
But with illnesses like this current "swine flu", you may very well prevent yourself from getting ill. Or at least lessening the severity, if you do. And that applies to the common cold and a host of other infirmities that afflict humanity. Pretty effective herb, from my experience!
And for the skeptics, even if I was somehow "imagining" this protective immune system boost...what difference would it make? If you discover something actually works for you it would be a foolish gamble (to say the least) if you didn't "take advantage" of it. You may very well be surprised at just how effective echinacea is.
This herb is available in capsule form, as well, but I've found the liquid extract to be the best form of ingestion. As with most herbal intake; start slowly, take note of any adverse reactions, and increase dosage slowly per directions on the bottle. You can find this herb anywhere from grocery store vitamin sections, to independent health food stores.
You may discover yourself feeling better all-around, as well as avoiding getting sick with the flu... and who wouldn't want that.

Please be specific. What were you remarkable results? I'm seriously interested.
The 1918 pandemic flu was also very mild its first trip around the globe. It killed less then .08%, its second and third trip? Well, that is in the history books.
That being said, it is indeed starting to look like we might escape what we all know will come one day......the end. For now anyhow. But until the last cough is coughed and the last sneeze is sneezed, the fire still simmers.
Austrian branch of vaccine company Baxter sent a batch of ordinary human H3N2 flu to Avir lab, also in Austria; a Czech affiliate of Avir conducted tests on ferrets, which died; investigation shows that the H3N2 batch contained live virulent H5N1 virus.
People were trying to make something out of nothing it seems.
