Stenciled writing on the walls! Like, "Live, Love, Laugh"... they should add "puke" to the end! Or dried flowers hung on the walls. Barf! An overdone country theme with chicken wire and roosters everywhere. Or I have a friend with the same furniture from her first home in 1990... and it was hand-me-down then! Plus nothing at all on the walls, that are all white but now beat up. I don't think she's a very visual person lol!
.
NO way to the dried flowers. I have some in my bedroom on the wall, I buy a new set every year because they do fade out. I pay big bucks for them too. I just love them. Other than that...fresh flowers in my home.
I love this thread and am having so much fun reading it. Now listen though. I agree, I see some tacky crap in homes. However, for some of those folks out there picking on the "country" theme, there is such a thing as elegant country decorating. I myself have done that and have more compliments from different realtors. Simple, but nice is the key. I agree, some folks just plain overdo it, such as putting Boyds bears all over the place... Ugh! When I decorate, I like to use antiques, expensive looking berry garland, well made curtains etc. YES - I buy expensive dried flowers for the wall and I grow my own and put in antique vases. I always try to have some fresh flowers and I love to use the old mason jars. I do not get into wallpaper etc., although I must confess, I have used border in a couple of rooms. Sometimes, less is more. I personally could not live in a sterile perfect looking home. I like for folks to be able to come in and feel at home and not be afraid of where to step or not to step.
Case in point of what I am speaking of.
Thank you!
Would you like to see my portfolio?
All you have to do is go to my profile and have a Face Book account, if you dont, I would be more than happy to message you some links to magazine articles written about my work, the link to the book I am in, just let me know, I am happy to oblige!
Because you have a portfolio, you automatically have the ultimately authority in taste?
It's TASTE. There IS no authority. Being rude to other posters is pointless when it comes to things like decor...you can't have a final word because there IS no final word.
Man, who knew the artsy-#@#$#tsy crowd was so full of themselves?
Ahhhhhh! Don't say that. I have a 5 month old kitty that is literally breaking crap left and right around here. My husband said that when he gets up early in the a.m. and goes down to the Man Cave, our cat has the entire room upside down! Age 4 aye?
Depends on the cat. The other kitten, who used to like to climb up and down the screen on the sliding glass door, essentially turned into a catlump not too long after his assumed first birthday.
Just to review....No one is suggesting that we all do not have a perfect right to decorate our homes as we wish. I will defend anyone's right to have a Holly Hobbie wallpaper border, or whatever, but just don't expect me to like it.
I just thought it would be interesting to hear what the things are that bother people.

Please point and quote out where I ever said that?
Have you forgotten you are in the design forum, and not P&OC?
And check out some of the other categories for your viewing pleasure. All these photos are supposedly taken of homes that are/were for sale.
Unfortunately, I would bet money that there are posters on this thread that will disagree with you.
But then again.........who told them they had any taste?

You don't think a No Pest Strip is tasteful?
