Burbank, on the dresser, I kinda thought you were maybe gonna go with the older wooden stereo cabinet as a kind of focal point, with your equally brown recliner next to it. While white is okay in the LR since you like it a lot, seems to me you could just use the record shelf you had there but just turned against the wall. But I don't think I ever got an update on what layout you went with. Just wanting to catch up with you. I was the one who thought you should simply turn that couch around to face where you had the stereo in front of the fireplace, put down your chosen rug, and everything else would fall into place. Oh, and the rug you originally chose, it has some greens in it you could pick up on! GG
Ah yeah, let me give an update.
I decided to get rid of all my old furniture that came from Ashleys. I want to overall go for a lighter, warmer look so I'm going to get rid of all the furniture that is bringing the "dreary" into the room.
I don't really have a layout yet I'm in that "in between" furniture place where a good amount of it is either gone or on the way out the door, and I am going to need to buy new replacements that will fit into this overall new design.
I've done a lot of rushing into buying furniture, etc. that ended up not working and wasting money, so I'm really trying to not do that anymore and be more thoughtful/methodical about my purchases. My head is just all over the place, so this has been a challenging exercise for me.
I have the design specialist from Ethan Allen who is doing a home visit with me on Sunday, so I will be sure to post her recommendations after that.
I don't think it will look like bedroom furniture. There are many chests of drawers for other areas of the house. There are even chest of drawers tv stands. The fact it already goes with other piece is a big plus. I can be worked into the room very well if you select all of your other pieces and fabrics wisely.
But I agree that it won't be functional. Once again you'll be running into "where do the wires go" "where do I put the cable box." It could work if you had your carpenter friend change the drawers to shelves and convert the drawer fronts to doors on hinges. That would be pretty cool actually.
Is it wide enough for your TV or will the TV extend off the sides of it? If it's not wide enough, don't do it.
One thing I do want to point out - I don't have a cable box. I only use the tv to run either my laptop or ipad through to watch streaming tv. So that "kind of" solves that problem, since neither the laptop or my ipad would need a permanent home on top, and there are almost no wires in this solution.
Interesting idea though to have it modified a bit, I need to think about that. The tv does indeed fit on top - in fact in my old apartment when I was in my bedroom, this is the piece of furniture I was keeping the tv on top of, its a 32" flat screen that is on a stand. Small, by most people's living room sized tv's but its perfect for my needs.
So, what I'm thinking is I should try it in the living room, see how I like it - and if it works, then I can pick out fabrics, furniture and decorative items that blend with these two pieces, as the overall design for the room? And if it doesn't work, I can move the drawer chest back into the den and use it as bedroom furniture.
Burbank, do you still have your couch, easy chair, and stereo cabinet from your pics on Page 2 of this thread? Didya ever try flipping the couch around? I know you didn't want to put your desk behind the couch, but actually, it WILL seem like part of the room mainly because IT IS, especially when you're sitting there, and yet you'll have the nook you were seeking.

I still have those pieces of furniture for now, although I'm trying to get rid of the easy chair, and the stereo cabinet, and I'm going to move the desk into the den.
I think that ultimately I want to get away from the browns in this room, so that it will feel lighter/brighter in here. But for the time being until I figure out my next move, I will still have them and can work with shuffling them around the room.

Kind of tiny - I think its meant to be a kids bedroom. I don't know the exact measurments, but its too small to even fit a queen size bed with room to walk.
its very close to what I think I could be happy with, the only thing is I'm wondering how it would look with dark floors/lighter furniture, as opposed to with lighter colored floors.

I was kind of joking when I said that. You keep posting that if you don't like something in your living room you will move it into your den...thus asking how big it is
