I have a bed, box spring, that has metal squares attached, then it has wood feet that screw into the metal squares. The screw attached to the wood foot is rusty. How can i remove the rust and not soak the wood? Will the rust come back? Are there any very cheap alternatives to raising the box spring up without using the feet? I don't want to invest in a headboard and frame right now, but I want to raise it up off the floor. Any suggestions? I just don't want it to rust onto the metal squares that are bolted onto the box spring. The only rusty part is the screw that is in the end of the wood leg.
Naval Jelly. Brush it on, let it sit for a few minutes, rinse it off. Apply some light grease. Probably overkill though; if it's not too badly rusted just clean it with a wire brush and then add grease.
