Hardwood. It's the best for kitchens because its easy to clean and still semi-soft so stuff doesn't shatter into a million pieces if it falls.

Really? My cat knocked three dinner plates and 8 glasses out of the cabinet. They hit the hardwood and broke into pieces.

Travertine laid in the Versailles pattern. We LOVE it. The only bad thing about it is that nothing shows on it so I guess it could get pretty dirty if I let it!

It's by far the easiest floor I've ever had.

Large tiles, same as the rest of the house. I like having the same floor throughout, looks-wise. I seal the grout myself, easy to clean. Don't have an issue with dropping things, was a non-factor in my flooring choices.

Hardwood. Easier on the back and legs than tile and while glass, etc. can break if dropped on it, it's a bit more forgiving. Yes, it can get dinged and dented, but that's life for a kitchen floor. Tiles get chipped and cracked, plus grout gets nasty. Vinyl gets scratched and scuffed. No floor is impervious.

Breaking into pieces is quite different than breaking into a million shards, which is what happens on a tile floor. It is a nightmare to clean up.

In my current kitchen I have ceramic tile for the first time ever. I LOVE IT. I clean it with a steam mop (best cleaning invention ever). I'm just now thinking about having the grout professionally cleaned and sealed (and the kitchen is 15 years old at the end of 2015).

We currently have warped hard-wood flooring. I'd like to get Vinyl or quality Linoleum. If our house was built differently I'd go for coated concrete.
