Yes there should be transportation between there and everywhere in between. In many states (and places out of the country....UK and Europe to be specific) there is a transportation system to get from one state to the other. Granted Texas is alot more spread out than many places but there should be an economical way to get to different places in the area. It's nice to have a plan B just in case. Apparently it is an issue that is being evaluated to get to Galveston from Houston. I've researched and read several articles on the situation I am inquiring about so it must not be that daunting of an accommodation.

So I don't necessarily think it's a handful of people. It would be great in general to not rely on cars as much as we do in this area. It would be nice to go to the beach in Galveston and not need to drive......

About a decade ago they did a weekend trial run (train) from the depot in League City to the Strand - Galveston. I supposed there wasn't enough interest to justify it full time. I really don't know.

There are a lot of things "that would be nice" but the issue is who pays for it. All too often those wanting it are not willing to pay the cost of it so they try to get everyone else to pay for it.

For Houston that means:
4% unemployment.
People carpool more, freeways flow faster, oil is conserved.
Exurban areas increase in value.

Summer 2008 all over again.

I didn't know that Galveston was THAT far from Houston. Yeah, there needs to be some form of public transportation between the two.

don't think there's enough demand for public transportation from houston to galveston and that's ashame but then public transportation in houston is lacking...light rail from downtown to Reliant Stadium and now trying to put light rail down Scott St past the Univ. of Houston...don't think our city has real public transportation in mind...driving is the only way for us it seems

Default Commuting from Houston to Galveston for Work

There are StarVans and HosutonMetor vans which do ferry riders between Galveston and the outlying areas. I have seen severl from League CIty, not sure of from Clear Lake area, but know there are employees in Galveston from Hosuton who commute and some who carpool. Try contacting Houston Metro for their van ride program. Also try asking the HR folks where you paln to work or work about the possibility. Everyone in a smaller employer knows who carpools/vanpools and who commutes.
