HCTRA announced they're planning to extend the hardy toll road into downtown, which should be interesting considering they are moving an existing union pacific rail to make room. Will this help or hurt the surrounding areas?

We are moving to the future, riding on toll roads.

Dopo,
Having the toll road extend into down town will help alleviate traffic on 45. It won't help innerloopers much, but somebody out there will be glad to see it completed (30 years late!)

So..... why does it have to be a toll road?

We can easily build NFL football stadiums with "a small sells tax" but we can't build a public road?
How does that make sense?

we pay for it either way, but atleast with the toll road, ostensibly the people that use it pay rather than those that happen to live where its going. Why subsidize The Woodlands?

I believe that is a smart move, I take the Hardy to 59 on some days coming from the northside into Downtown and that would allow the traffic to go straight in. Hardy is probably the best toll road in the city in terms of commute in and out of Downtown and avoiding 45, 59

Because then we can charge tourists and business travelers for our stadium, just like other citites do. Rent a car at the airport and see what your taxes are. A toll road affects the people that use it, not necessarily those that dont need it.

The stadium is partly financed with a tax on rental cars and (I think) hotel occupancy. There is NO sales tax that goes for sports.

And if it's not a toll road, it will NOT be built.

It's a win-win. If you don't use it, you don't pay for it. If you do, you pay. And no general funds will be used, only toll money.

Can you tell me 1 toll road that improved traffic on the existing public road that needed improvement?
I-45 is still packed with cars everyday.
