According to a report by the Coldwell Banker Group, a 2200-square-foot house with 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, a family room and a two-car garage in a neighborhood typical for corporate middle-management transferees would sale for about $151,600 in Houston.

Does this sound right? I know homes are very affordable in Houston, but I didn't think they are that affordable.

Thanks for any input.

Sounds about right, for 150k you could get a nice older ranch style 4 bedroom in a decent neighborhood. A more decked out 4 bedroom in a nicer area might run you 180k-220k. Of course if you want to spend more there is always someone willing to take that money too.

BearBranch,

Which neighborhood did you buy in? I just bought a 3000sf 4/3 house in Oakhurst yesterday. Paid 210k with an oversized cul-de-sac lot and a ton of upgrades.

I had a suspicion just when you said custom I was thinking new construction and I didn't know they were still building there.

yes, they are that affordable. Mine was 2700 sq ft for 160,000 in Spring built plus 3000 for most of upgrades(sprinkler system, spindle stairs, alarm system, tile floors, 42 inch cabinet, etc,.) In a great area (Klein ISD).

151k for a 2200ft 4/2 sounds right for a shoddy-built KB home about 45-60 minutes' drive from the prime workplaces (Uptown & Downtown). In Clear Lake and Sugar Land for a better built house of that size, you'll be spending closer to 190k which is still 30-45 mins away. If you want to live 15 mins from the prime areas which are not ghetto, they will be about 40-50 years old and about 300-500k for that size.
