I was born in Colorado but currently live in Houston. I live up north in The Woodlands and I have mixed feelings about the Houston area. The suburbs are the way to go as some of the inner-city areas are pretty creepy. I am only about 15-20 minutes from IAH so it is pretty convenient. Low sales taxes but high property taxes in Montgomery County so it's a wash.

As mentioned before (and will be mentioned by about everyone who lives here) is that if you decide on Houston, you have to get used to hot and VERY humid weather. Imagine walking outside in April-October, and immediately starting to sweat. That's a normal Houston day. We don't have much in the way of seasons either (blistering hot to cold for about 2 months).

If I were you, I would seriously consider Colorado if you have the choice. MUCH nicer city and your QOL should be better.

Good luck!

Thomas

I will have to agree. I have been living in Houston for 20 years now and each and every year the excessively hot and humid weather gets to me. People say you get used to it overtime, however, to me it's having the opposite effect. Also driving a car everywhere over huge sprawlness of the city is another big negative for me. The positives are low cost of living and robust economy.

Trust me if my financial condition permitted or permits I will move out to maybe some cooler pastures. But if you can weather the high/humid temps and are fine with driving than Houston in my view is good place to call home.
