In The Woodlands, there are "more desirable" schools.

Conroe ISD is comprised of The Woodlands, Conroe, Oak Ridge, and other parts of Spring, East County, etc. Even though it is the same school district, there are factors that play into how the schools perform. Socioeconomic status is the first thing that comes to mind. The kids in these schools will often out perform due to family involvement, etc. Kids from a higher economic status generally go to college since their parents probably did, therefore kids are probably pushed to do better in school. I am a product of a single mother who had an 8th grade education so I have some experience in the subject. Disclaimer- there are always exceptions to this, but this is a general rule.

Not according to my brother's experience many years ago.Too many first year teachers, and most elementary classes with 30 kids per room, with no TA's.

Public school is public school. Safety, location within a city, and parental participation is really the only difference.

What I am saying that within The Woodlands, there are some schools that are considered more desirable than some other schools in The Woodlands.

There are laws that restrict the number of children in elementary school classes but not so much for junior high and high school classes. As stated by previous posters, districts may apply for waivers. I teach in Katy ISD and my average class size has certainly increased due to personnel and budget cuts.

It's all very simple. We hate taxes in this state.

No money=less teachers=more crowded classrooms.

By the way, Pearland is an extremely overrated school district in mine (and many other educators) opinion. They are famous for chasing even the slightest discipline problem kids to the KIPPs and the Harmonys of the world.

While I understand your point, I think most parents would applaud that. Certainly there are kids who can be turned around, but if those kids are funneled to schools who are better suited to deal with their personality...seems like a win/win. Especially considering the original context of the discussion...overcrowding in PISD.

Sounds like you like public schools full of compliant children.

As long as they are taxing everyone's house and telling us any kid is welcome, what some district do should be considered fraud.
