Not a good idea at all. I grew up across from there and really hate to say how bad things have gotten in that area but have to speak the truth. The area is not called Gunspoint for nothing. My parents still live there (requirement to have a big, mean, or looks mean dog) and over Christmas all our cars were broken into when we were at church (lucky me, we went in my car), the neighbor's christmas ornaments were stolen (very sad). Another friend was bumped by a car (she was on foot) and robbed at the WalMart near there in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. Not good. Also a lot of the residents in the apartments in that area were relocated from New Orleans during the exodus, don't know how many are left but the area got worse then. Especially the friction between the minority groups. I saw a customer and cashier at the nearby Walgreens end up in a slugging fight due to racial and age-related epithets (started by the cashier). I was completely shocked and froze in place until I got grazed by the cashier and managed to get out of the way. It is all so sad in what used to be a nice area once upon a time. I keep trying to convince my parents to get out but they are original owners and really do have good and caring neighbors (and a big, mean-looking doberman mix).
If you must live in the area, look towards Humble and the apartments on Beltway 8, east of 59 or somewhere out towards Spring.

We lived in Gunspoint before Katrina for a few years and moved when Allison hit. Everything at the complex was under water. My maternal family used to live out that way, and would always suffer during floods.

I'd say it's worth the extra money to pay for someplace safer.

I'd have to agree that this area is pretty sketchy, especially this particular part of the Greater Greenspoint area. As an alternative, you might want to consider the newer properties and complexes that have been built east of JFK Blvd along the Sam Houston Parkway). They're secluded enough to where you don't have to worry as much about bad complexes in the area with bad tenants doing bad things and so on.
