In my personal experience, this IS true. FTW, for some reason, has always felt like the friendliest big city in Tx. But yea, that's quite a bit further north.

Friendswood or league city might suit you well. Insurances are higher due to proximity to gulf but more small town feeling yet relatively close to both downtown and the gulf.

Have just driven thru there on our way to the Gulf, but will explore a bit more next time. Thanks!

Kingwood/Atascocita are like the Woodlands without the central core. The lake is really nice and it is a easier commute into DT Houston.

As far as League City or Friendswood if Hobby airport is sufficient for your Hubby's travel those would definitely be an option considering your wanting to be in close proximity of the Gulf/bay...

Though it's worth noting that although people in general may be polite in League City (I hope so, my sister lives there!), the local politics in that town have historically been on a crazier and more acrimonious level than most other municipalities in the region - it had the most infamous reputation outside of Galveston (nothing beats Galveston when it comes to crazy local politics). Maybe it's settled down a little now?

Meaning the attitude in Kingwood Atascocita is going to be the same?
Hmm, I think he'd want to go out of IAH vs Hobby..more direct flights and larger schedule. But I think it's either be closer to the bay and farther from the airport or vice versa. Will have to see what the traffic is like to Bush from there. Something to think about though!!

I notice a lot of indifference in the cashiers too..especially the younger ones, although it might be due to an overall surliness that has been increasing in the world. There are a lot of negative cultural influences out there and acting thuggish and surly has become somewhat acceptable. Friendliness, manners, being able to spell well...these things have lost some importance.
But regardless of the reason, Houston is changing and becoming something other than what it was. Its future will have little cultural relation to The South.

There are some very pretty neighborhoods on Lake Houston. Many of them directly on the water. It is a slower paced area imo.

Lake Houston Parkway developments all over the place. Waters Edge, Lakeshore, Kingwood are in great driving distance to Bush and all other amenities in NE Houston and SE Montgomery County.
