I am new to the Katy area and I am trying to find some people who may be up for some poker. I have two friends in Katy who both play from time to time, but before I moved to Texas I used to play at the casinos and we had home games quite often, since being in Texas, I have only played a few times at some home games, and I have never made the trip to Louisiana to play. I was just checking the water to see if anyone around here plays or knows of any places to play. I don't need to play for a lot of money, I just want to play with people who will take it somewhat serious. I live in WLN in SW Katy near Cinco Ranch.

Also, if anyone knows of any places to go play that would be fine as well. The only people I know that take cards seriously live up in North Houston and I can't drive that far every time I want to play, so maybe there is a place a bit closer to home.

Thanks,
Scott

Smile I am with you.. Lets get some poker going

Like you I came from somewhere else (Phoenix, Az) and over there someone would host a game at their house every weekend. I never had a problem finding a game and I loved it. Here we need to have more of that. I think that if you started with just a small group of friends and just kept inviting more people it would grow pretty fast. Keep me posted.

Try meetup.com. If there isn't already a Katy poker group, you could start one.

another idea is to join a group where you might find some poker players, like at a LSU tailgating group. And there happens to be one in Katy. There's a larger group in the area, but I don't remember their website.

Many bars have Texas hold em nights for free. Go there and see if there are others interested. Safer than trying over the net.

Lane Change. I live in WLN as well. I would be interested in getting together and playing every once in a while. PM me if you want to set something up.

I have looked on meetups.com and was not able to find anything in the Katy area. I did find a site that listed a ton of home games, but most of the latest updates were pretty old. I contacted Prestige Poker, but they are no longer in business. Sounded like a good setup, 3 tables, good blind sizes, lots of tournements, etc... Oh well. I did get in touch with some guy named Shane that holds a poker night every Friday in old Katy. May try that, just seems odd contacting someone randomly about playing, I was hoping there would be a group of people that have a forum, site, etc...

Well if anyone is interested in playing, I am always up for a game, as long as people play somewhat seriously.

Thanks.

My husband and I enjoy playing, and take the game seriously. I'm not very good, but trying to get better. You should start a meetup.com group.

I don't want to be contacted by random random strangers about coming to my house. At least people on this site are on this site. meetup.com for me would be like posting on craigslist, and sorry, but there are so many creepy people out there, putting my info out to the world just doesn't sit well with me. Hell, contacting other people out there still feels weird and they are asking to be contacted. I would like to just build a group up slowly from people that I know or know people I know and so on....perhaps this site might help build up a group of people.

Like I said earlier, I found a guy who hosts a game every Friday in Katy, and he told me that he can find me a game any night of the week. They have 16-20 players there, and play from 7-8pm until 8-10am Friday-Saturday. That is a bit excessive for me since I work on Saturdays so I will have to bail quite early compared to these guys, but we'll see. I miss playing poker regulalry, but most online places are just too wild for my taste and I don't pride myself on being the best online player.

I like playing poker but I find its tough to find a good game. There are handfuls of "underground" poker rooms (think Rounders) all around Houston. When I wasn't married, I use to hit up some of these places. There was/is one in South Houston next to a bingo hall. You would never notice the building and you had to have a barcoded keytag that you scanned to get through the main doors, but once you got inside, it was like you were in a Las Vegas poker room with about 10 tables, tvs, a babe of a drink server, and food. The only drawback was the place raked (or more like raped) the game something like 10-20% up to $12 per pot! It was crazy, but it still drew in a lot of people. Another thing I didn't like about it was you weren't sure if there was any cheating going on especially regarding the dealers. The place wasn't in the nicest part of town and there was always the risk that it could get raided by cops (or otherwise). But once you do find one of these more "serious" games, you start hearing about others and you realize there is definitely not a lack of poker games in this town.

And then there is the home game with buddies, but my buddies have lower limits and don't like playing at the stakes that I'm comfortable with (I like to play $5-10 and $10-20 NL holdem when I'm in vegas). These games are just for fun and I don't get too much out of them. So in the end, I hit a few home games just for the comaderie, but I save the real poker playing for vegas, or you can drive 2hours east to Lake Charles (Isle of Capri or Coushatta). They have mostly $2-5 NL and Limit games.

I normally play $3-6 or $5-10 at the casinos...never played a $10-20 because I don't bring enough cash to sit at a $10-20 w/o running the risk of getting eaten up by blinds before I get a chance to play...plus, those games have people who tend to push around the small stacks too much. I am married as well, and obviously can't play as much anymore, the kids slowed the poker down more than the marriage did.

Either way, I just want people to play serious, and respect the game more than the amount...so I am fine playing a $1-2 or $2-4 NL game if people will play for real and not think....it's just $20 or something and call when they have no reason to be in the pot catching cards other than their ability to risk chips.

I just want to get a good home game, 10 people or so, money is not as important as the play, but sometimes it takes more money to get people to play seriously. Anywhere between Katy, Richmond, and Sugarland would be cool with me as far as playing. I am not looking to get raided, and I don't want the house to rake the pot too much either, I also don't want to swim in a shark tank....so I think a home game will be best for me for now. I have 2 other people who can play that live in Katy, but 3 people is not a poker game.
