From what I heard, a lot of locals don't even like the Galleria because it doesn't represent what most of Texas is like.
It's 2011.Not 1980.

I live in Miami and have been looking to move to place with cheaper rents, and I don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire in terms of having to be bilingual (I am an accounting clerk).

My concern is only from an employment standpoint - I don't care for any other reason....

I know Houston has some really low rents in fairly decent areas, I have researched it.
Not for most jobs, but it certainly would help if you were working in a barrio.

No, but it looks good on your application.

Ok, just wondered. In Miami, it's really hard to get a job without it, so I don't want to put myself in that situation again .

Yes, that true, and Houston is stuck in 1965.

Also, the Hispanic population is almost entirely Mexican, making it seem even more conservative. I've always found places like Miami and LA with large populations of South Americans to have a much wider, interesting Hispanic diversity, and do not seem as preoccupied with being modest. Also, South American countries generally tend to be "flashier" in their style and more open-minded than most Mexicans. Not saying all Mexicans are like this, but by far most are, and it becomes very apparent in Houston.
Your comments are way off here.

When exactly was the last time you were in Houston? 1970?

FYI: There's plenty of South Americans and Central Americans here. I should know since I am one of them.

2008. I'm sure there are in numbers, but not a visible minority either. Houston is the most "Mexican" per capita big city in the US...by far.

Chicago has more overall, but it's also much bigger to begin with.

Actually San Antonio would be the most "Mexican" per capita big city in the US. Anyways according to the census it pretty much proves your earlier comments to be wrong regarding the number of immigrants/ethnic groups in the city of Houston.
