Be more specific.....I was born and raised in North Huntsville. What do you want to know exactly?

It's an older section of the city with older housing and not nearly as many attractive retail options as the southern or western ends of the city. The only upside I can think of is the cheaper housing options. The schools are not that great - if you're moving with family, you'll probably want to stick to Southeast HSV or Madison as a general rule.

IMHO housing gets better on the outskirts of the city limits, but at that point, you're probably better off living in the county with county schools. If you have a particular area within North HSV in mind, I could probably tell you a bit more.

The place has its fair share of crime, but that's true of just about any area these days.

I was looking at a house for sale near stringfield rd. NW. I'm not looking for a place with good schools, my kids are all grown, I see the houses are older but that doesn't matter, just looking for a good older house in a safe neighborhood.

Near Stringfield Road? It's a good thing you weren't looking for good schools - not there. The houses are older, but generally well-built. Safe? Not so much, but if you aren't involved with drugs and keep a low profile and fit the demographic you might be OK.

I know several people that live in areas of Mastin Lake, Sparkman, etc. No real problems besides petty property crimes, etc.

With the exception of a few streets/areas, N Hsv is actually pretty nice, as far as people mow their yards, landscape etc. But you will have trash thrown in, cars on blocks, pittbulls chained in the front yard, etc
