Why in the world does it take up to 4 weeks to be issued a ccw permit, but I can go buy as many guns as I want pretty much same day? When I received my permit in Morgan county I got it same day. I believe Limestone county is the same way. Is the sheriff just using his 30 days just because he can? You get pulled over they know everything about you in several minutes. It should not take up to 4 weeks for a clean record! I submitted the application last Friday. It still isn't showing up in the status online as having been entered into the system. It's like they take you application and just throw it into a pile and get to it when they want too. If I have to wait 4 weeks why don't the deputies have to wait 4 weeks on duty before they are allowed to carry their weapon. It's my understanding that the criminal type isn't normally going to be applying for a license anyway so why the delay? What does it matter if the commit a crime with or without the permit. They are going to carry it regardless of the law.

They are probably swamped with applications.

Morgan county does it right there on the spot. All they were doing at the court house in Madison county was throwing applications into a pile. There is no excuse for 4 weeks. Is the drivers license division swamped often? Yes, but they still issue renewals and transfers same day. It's not like they are digging in a filing cabinet pulling up your record.

Even the Huntsville Hospital has a kiosk scanner that can scan your DL and get all the vital info from your license for your after hours guest pass.

Just curious why would you need to reapply if you got one in Morgan County. Isn't it good in any Alabama County?

It was several years ago. I believe you would have to have one for the county in which you reside because it is tied to your address. You wouldn't want your DL to say one thing and permit to say another. You could get denied for that very reason.

I got mine renewed in Limestone County last month, in and out in 5 minutes. The first time I applied it took about 10 minutes. Years ago when I lived in Madison County, it too 4 weeks, never understood why it took so long.

If waiting 4 weeks for your CCW is the worst thing that happens to you today then it has been a really really good day.

The online status doesn't work properly. Ours still showed that it was in process when we got our permits in the mail. Madison County just takes longer. It isn't personal. My wife's best friend is active duty military and it took her 9 weeks to get hers in the mail.

And it isn't related to the ability to buy firearms. You can buy them all day, but it doesn't mean you can carry it in your vehicle.

Buy the 5 year renewal and you won't have to bother with it for a good while.

But you are legally allowed to carry it open and exposed on your person without a permit.

Yes you are..... but the topic at hand is discussing CCW, which isn't legal without the permit.
