Well, it looks like all the BRAC hype has died down, so who knows.

The BRAC movement has barely just begun, so I don't see why the metro would lose people. Maybe the city of Huntsville could lose a few folks, but I seriously doubt that too. Why do you ask?

I ask because after BRAC dies, I'm afraid that this growing city will lose population. Will something else take BRAC place after it dies down to keep Huntsville growing?

Well, personally I think it would be nice for the metro area to spend several years digesting all the growth that BRAC brings. Again, BRAC growth is still in the very early stages. I would rather the city and region take the time to grow in a productive manner rather than sprawl out of control like Atlanta.

I would rather for the city and the region to sprawl like Atlanta so people won't view Huntsville as being country and boring!

I hope that we can grow in a smarter and more sustainable way than Atlanta. If I wanted to live in Atlanta, I would.

I don't think reasonable people think of sprawling growth as a good thing, unless you like 2 hour commutes to work.

I am reasonable! Alabama and its cities seem to always lag behind other cities and states when it comes to population. With more than a hundred roads in the process of being being widened doubled their, then no one has to really worried about 2 HOUR COMMUTES! Huntsville, I think, needs more growth than it has currently, so that more amusement and leisure places can come with the rooftops!

I can appreciate your youthful exhuberance (assuming your handle refers to your birthday), but I don't think you know what you're talking about. What do you mean Huntsville needs "more growth than it currently has?" Huntsville is the fastest growing region in the state. And how does Alabama and its cities lag behind other states? Tell that to Ohio, Mississippi, Wyoming, West Virginia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Michigan, etc etc etc. Having lived in or near many major cities (LA, Denver, Atlanta, Baltimore) I can assure you 1-2 hour commutes are a reality in many cities. ALDOT may be the least efficient government agency in the state of Alabama and I doubt very seriously that 100 roads in the Huntsville area are in the process of being widened to accommodate the growth to come. Just look how long it's taking to add overpasses on the Parkway. I don't look forward to the excitement that rapid out of control growth can bring. Growth for growth's sake will not bring the excitement you seek.
