As far as Idaho I'm sure its the same as where I'm sitting in Montana Missoula Area, I'm from Washington and get treated as if I'm from cuba or something, they hate outsiders up here idaho and montana especially Californians go to Washington you'll get the city and the scenary there.

That is funny, I was in Montana this morning and everyone was friendly, and I am in Idaho right now, and everyone is friendly. Was down in Utah recently, everyone was friendly, and come to think of it, last time I was in Nevada, everyone was friendly...I'd almost think DESERTRYDER was right and it was my smile, except that so many folks in California are so UNfriendly!

I agree 100%. I was in San Francisco this week and I was reminded why I hate that place. I blame the poor attitudes to the local morning news stations. All bad news ALL the time. It was disgusting. Although I stayed downtown, so maybe I got the worst of it. Market Street sucks. :P

I am bias, so all you bay area lovers beware! lol

Default Emmett welcomes you

DESERTRYDER and others, I happened upon this string of posts and was fascinated by the comments. I actually live in Emmett and work for the Chamber of Commerce here. So you can imagine, I was interested in your perceptions. I moved from LA in 1994 to raise my son. While Emmett is not perfect, it is a great place in many ways. If you are ever of a mind to, please do not hesitate to contact me at the Chamber office. I actually work out of my home but tell them the Events gal talked to you...the office is on Main Street next to the Youth Ranch. I would be happy to try and welcome your family to our Valley. The greatest thing about Emmett is the people and there are plenty who would love to welcome you, help you get acquainted and find your way. Yours, Krista

BTW... you dont have an accent or anything that may set you apart. We talk just like you do. Just get here and show people that you are a good person. You do know we are miles and miles and miles from any ocean right? Thats the biggest down-side. Best of luck to you!

Haha, accents. The only people that have an accent are New Yorkers, Bostoners, and Southerners. No one cares if you are from CA so long as you don't broadcast it and bash conservative/libertarian values at the same time. I believe this is what irks the natives.

PS. Most Californians that move to Idaho are typically conservatives fed up with taxes on their businesses and illegal immigration.

I don't understand the liberals that move to conservative states with the intentions of corrupting it. Isn't that the reason why they left their home state??

A minorities point of view...
As someone who grew up in that area...
Minorities are blacks that grow up in Northern Idaho or Washington...usually don't in no way shape or form, fit the city stereotype of 'blacks' or other 'minorities'...

If your black or minority, and grew up in Idaho or eastern washington...than you basically reflect the culture around you, in every way shape and form...except skin color...

Here's where issue comes...Whites who move up from California, are usually trying to get away from 'minorities' and they bring with them that city typical stereotype of minorities...which is very negitave...

But they don't realize that blacks or minorities in Idaho or Eastern WA don't fit that bill...
So what happens is they bring that urban city hostility towards blcks or minorities with them from Cali, as did Mark Furman...and make life hard for the blck minority residents that grew up there their whole lives and that are just regarler normal people...

some of the worst racism and resentment comes from people who movie up from urban areas...
The locals arent really racist...they have no reason to be...cause they don't deal with the same issues...
The issues they deal with are very non racial...

It's funny...cause if I were to return there now...everyone would think that I was an 'outsider' simply due to my skin tone...when actually I grew up there...and that's what I don't like...

But that's just from a minorities point of view...good day...

Default the main difference being

Most people migrating North out of Cal. aren't showing up without jobs, demanding their "right" to free education, free medical care and getting on state welfare, generally draining the economy of Idaho at the expense of the Idaho natives. We speak the same language as you so you don't have to require your schools to teach classes in our language, you don't have to print all business signs and all official mailings in two languages.
I would hope all the far left voters here who've created this mess are so happy with what they've done, they would never leave Calif. and the ones of us leaving are just simply fed up with "entitlement" society here ( hey we're outvoted) and are hard working family values types who will make a positive contribution to wherever we wind up.
