Hi,

In looking at properties - I am curious as to the rules in various counties. Here - it is 1 acre per horse. Up north it is 1 acre for 3 horses. Anyone have any idea? We're going to need 5 horses. Thanks in advance!

Jen

Here in Bonner County if you live in agricultural areas like we do, there is no limit. In suburban areas you can have 2 horses on 3 acres and one horse per acre after that to a total of 10.

I'm curious about this too. I looked at a zoning map today that showed my home and others on the opposite side of the block are zoned for 2 family residences, but some of those folks on the other side of the block have horses. Would this mean I could have one too? I could call the city to ask, but am just curious, and don't want to cause any trouble for my neighbors.

ATV's are a lot less trouble...and you only feed them when you go to ride them! Just kidding, Misty and I have had a friendly poke or two about wheeled vs hooved transport.

My daughter wants a horse and is willing to join a pony club and 4h to learn all she can about them. I told her when she rakes horse turds out of somebody's horse stall for a year then she's getting closer. She wants me to get a home on 5 acres with a barn.
I am offering her a new Yamaha YZ 125 because I am betting it's safer and cheaper than a horse

Still get the 5 acres and the barn...it's a great place to store bikes too. And the dirt is a place for a track.

Why not get both? The ATV's are great at pulling a manure spreader to clean up after the horse but there's nothing like the outside of a horse for the inside of a girl. Girls and horses are magic together.

DesertRyder: Pony Club is AWESOME for kids (all the way up to age 25)but it's English only. If your daughter wants to ride western she's stuck with 4H.
Our club just put on a regional Quiz rally on Saturday for competitors all over our region. It's wonderful to see kids from all over the inland northwest get back together after several months and renew their friendships over friendly competition. USPC is a terrific organization.

Know where to find a pony club in the Idaho Falls area? Where would I start looking? Lots of folks around here have horses, but I'm an ignorant city girl.

Idaho Falls would be part of the Intermountain Region. Here is their website:
