- You really notice the smell of pine trees.

- You actually realize how out of shape you are due to the altitude and hills

- You wonder where you have to take your car for it's annual inspection

- You think living on a gravel road is real "out there"

- You wonder why someone would ever want 5+ acres

- You still lock your doors

- You don't own more than a half dozen guns

- You work outside and feel pretty comfortable when it's 95, because you're not sweating (more of an east coast thing with the humidity)

- You don't have a cracked winshield

- You don't have a dog/dogs

- You get (minor) nose bleads from the dry air

- You still have a tie...and remember how to tie it

- You still wash your car more than once a year

- You have more dress slacks than jeans

- You haven't traded the sports car on a pickup, ATV, dirt bike or snowmobile

- You haven't started drooling over tractors

- You look outside and realize your finally HOME!

- And wonder why it took you so long

*****feel free to add to it, just a few quick thoughts*****

You might be new to north Idaho if you're shocked by walking into The Green Owl Tavern and finding a trapped and dead bobcat hanging from the rafters draining into a trash can. Or by the box of "Spotted Owl Helper" sitting on the bar.

Well, you're new to NID only if you notice things like that and think it's out of the ordinary...

You know, I've driven by that place a few times...thought it looked like a dive, or at least like something from Deliverance, even by my standards. One of these places where if you weren't one of the local regulars you might end up squeeling like a pig or something. Based on your comments, it sounds downright classy, my kind of place, I'll have to stop in !!! Sounds like ifn I show up with camo I'd fit right in.

Black out a few teeth and you'll be fine. I double dog dare you to order a pizza... try the "Biker Mama". The folks who own it have always been nice to us though. I've stopped in with my husband to get a beer after getting hay in and I've been to the bear barbeque. I've seen tourists pull in with Cadillacs and head in only to freeze and back out the door. It can't be too bad though because a bicycle touring company uses it as a rendezvous point. All those guys in bicycle shorts and we've never heard any whispers of Deliverance type activity.

Heck, if bicyclists make it out OK, it must be pretty safe. I've though about making it a stop for one of our ATV rides. We ride from Sandpoint, over Baldy and Gisborn, need a lunch stop. We've been to Cavinaugh Bay, but that makes for a long ride. Green Owl might be worth a shot. And heck, us quad riders are redneck enough to fit right in.
