Now this is messed up. Maybe they should be as strict to those in the southern borders! I thought if you served in military, you will get your citizenship automatically even backdated?
WWII vet discovers he’s not a U.S. citizen - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110324/us_yblog_thelookout/wwii-vet-discovers-hes-not-a-u-s-citizen - broken link)
Not an illegal immigration issue. His American parents gave birth to him in Canada and never registered his birth with the American Consulate.
Gotta love how the amnesty lobby seeks to capitalize on every story which they think will help their cause. Only to find out it has nothing to do with them.
Well there's no way they'll deport him anyway. a. he's American by descent, b. he served in WW2 in the US service and c. he's been here continuously long enough prior to 1986 to meet the requirements anyway.
I think my concern is more with the fact that he is applying for an extended drivers license at 95 years old?
But if he is illegal, send him back to Canada.
But he was born OUTSIDE the USA, therefore his citizenship is by right of descent NOT by being born on USA soil (like anchor babies).
He's technically a Canadian citizen by birth though.
Weird. Someone said something here on City Data about George Romney; born in Mexico yet he was able to run for US president. His people were residents of Mexico. The same rule should have applyd to him along with that WW II vet.
He is not illegal. His parents were AMERICAN. He will get his citizenship. It's not like he came here to breed and mooch off the system. He served this country!
