Corporate greed, that makes more sense.

Now, we demand these arbitrary minimum standards, i.e. "Even though I stack boxes for a living and only generate $5,000 worth of 'value' to my employer a year, I am working hard and demand $12,000 worth of health insurance a year, along with enough money to support children and a car."

If you want to make $10/hour, go figure out how to do something that earns $10/hour.
If you want to make $30/hour, go figure out how to do something that earns $30/hour.

If you are incapable of earning enough to support your lifestyle, then change your lifestyle. These things - children, health care, a house, a car, clothes, food - those are not rights, you have to work to earn them. At least, that's how I was brought up, I don't know about y'all.

So that's when its time to call '800-RentAMexican'? Also, if we didn't have a joke of a health care system those arbitrary demands would be much less significant.

Well I can't speak for "y'all" of us but myself having worked very hard to get where I am at today, I make more money than I need and I'm for the most part happy with it. The point of this conversation was more so that the jobs people were qualified for and payed well to do are being lost to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Can't get anymore black & white than that bud.

And my point is: there are many reasons why illegal imimgrants are bad, but a depression in the wages of unskilled, uneducated labor is not one of them.

OK, lets agree to disagree then. I happen to think depressed wages is a direct result of them. Now, an influx of legal immigrants driving down wages is fare game because they would have the legal right to those jobs.

Well, to be clear - I agree with you that illegal immigrants cause depressed wages. I'm just not convinced that depressed wages are a bad thing.

I saw people complaining that American jobs are being sent overseas, and in the same paragraph, they complain that illegal immigrants are depressing American wages. That seems contradictory to me, since American jobs are being shipped to other countries because our wages are so high.

I think that's the number of Mexican-Americans in the U.S. I've heard about 12 million illegals.

I'm shocked by the number for Nevada, I would have guessed MUCH higher. Is it possible that we inherited all of the ones from Arizona? And what about Louisana? Could that possibly be an accurate number??? Well, if anyone feels short-changed, we have plenty to spare!

Fair enough:

Our wages were 'too high' and had to be cut to reflect world supply and demand.

If indeed such is the case: the CEO's definitely need their wages whacked as well-------maybe on the order of 75% less.

I am being quite serious here: most of them are not worth their present compensation with the incredible screw ups in the market place.

Lead paint in toys from China for one flagrant example.

On another note, the wages for politicians are pretty crappy. The politicians who actually help to make this country stable and carry an important role in the Government should be paid 2 or 3 times of what they make now. The president should make a little over $1 Million. I mean cmon, I know people who make over $400k a year after taxes. Their jobs aren't nearly as hard as the presidents. Its like the hardest job in the U.S!
