The link below is from a very revealing article from L.A. Times, surprisingly enough. One L.A. neighborhood became a haven for illegals looking to work at a food plant. Over the course of 20 years, the place became a "crime fortress" maintained by blood ties among families from a particular part of Mexico. It's now considered "worse than South-Central." More alarming is the fact there are probably many other such neighborhoods out there that don't receive any media spotlight until some horrendous crime is committed.
One of its most famous residents is an illegal alien who came to this country while she was in her 20s and, lacking any real skills, developed her own drug-dealing business while birthing 13 children on American soil-most of whom are now gang members.
This story paints a picture of what will happen to more U.S. cities if illegal immigration continues unabated.
The immigrants from Europe, Asia, etc 100 years were legal------despite many of them (Irish Catholics in particular) having a bad reputation.
Doesn't matter, the U.S's large New English cities weren't lovable sanctuaries. They were cesspools of crime and plain filth. (garbage wise). They used to toss their "excrements" out their window.

Very true.
Hell: my 'White' ancestors in Orange, Va. were most likely sharecroppers who lived on the 'wrong side of the tracks' as well.
We are discussing names like 'Terrill', 'Daniel', etc.------and, many of 'em were Black as well as White.
The Madisons, Taliaferro's, etc. were so-called 'polite society' back then.
BTW: the first Taliaferro, despite its Latin sound, was an Englishman who left there ca. 1650 for the New World------his ancestors were apparently from Italy.
Hint: Taliaferro is usually pronounced 'Toliver'......and, sometimes spelled exactly that way.

Ahem....at that time, so did we. Indoor plumbing had not yet been invented.
