Indigenous people were here THOUSANDS of years ago. Europeans were here only 500 years ago.

I think AZBear is hinting at those folks who are PARTLY indigenous. As the "Colored" folks in South Africa (white/ black mixed race) used to say, "The Colored People arrived on 'The Cape' just 9 months after the Whites"....or words to that effect.
Actually, some of the Eskimos (Inuit) in Alaska were still "arriving", departing, and arriving again, right up until the last century, when this practice was pretty well 'closed off' by Soviet-American Cold War tensions. Whether AZBear would call these 'late-arriving indigenous people' or not, he'll have to answer....
