Schwarzenegger: Don't blame state budget deficit on illegal immigrants.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday disputed claims that illegal immigrants caused California's $24.3 billion deficit, while he praised their economic contributions and said he is "happy" they have access to services.

The Republican governor, answering wide-ranging questions from The Bee's editorial board and its readers, also vented about roadblocks to his authority posed by political foes and warned that government can't sustain the current level of "unbelievable benefits" for public-sector workers.

In response to dozens of questions from readers who say the state ought to wipe out the deficit by eliminating services for illegal immigrants, the governor said it is a "myth" that those immigrants are to blame.

Not "the" factor but one of them including pensions, pay and special interest funding. Anyone would be blind not to recognize all factors involved in this mess.

i guess he does not think that the flood of illegal immigrants into california (and other states) started the "need" for the housing boom, which started the "need" for the mortgage market, which started the "need" for the derivative market, which started our country on the bailout path.

allowing millions of illegal workers into our country started the bubble that has now popped. we never had the manufacturing base to support all this labor.

It seems that the misrepresentation of the 14th amendment ( jackpot babies) has its associated costs as well.
I wonder if Arnold adds these figures into his " estimated costs of services provided to illegals ?
Some may argue that this has nothing to do with illegal immigration, but these costs are the direct result of illegal immigration.
imho..

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, 5th District

LOS ANGELES COUNTY - Figures from the Department of Public Social Services show that children of illegal aliens in Los Angeles County collected more than $21 million in welfare and more than $22 million in food stamps in March 2009 -- an increase of $1 million from the previous month, according to a news release from Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
Annually the cost of illegal immigration to Los Angeles County taxpayers exceeds one billion dollars, which includes $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $500 million in welfare and food stamps allocations, according to the news release.

Twenty-four percent of the county's total allotment of welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to the children of illegal aliens born in the United States, according to Antonovich's statement.
"Illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers," Antonovich said in the statement. "The total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1 billion a year - not including the millions of dollars for education."

Children of illegal aliens cost county welfare $44 million in March

You can probably double that to account for the indirect benefits. Education alone would have a huge cost..subsidized breakfast/lunch, subsidized after school, free shots, free tutoring, ESL and bilingual teaching, school bus support..goes on and on.

Crack down on illegals and Cali can recover lots of money. The extreme liberalist views/policies in California is what made that state what it is today. Give everyone everything for free or low cost and don't ask questions.
Eventually the tab grows bigger then your revenue.

The guy is clueless and he's one big reason California has a $24.3 billion deficit.

So exactly what does he think made the big deficit? It comes down to there are too many takers and not enough givers in that state.

I was raised differently.

When I lived in California 20 years ago I was not one of those spongers of the system; I actually worked yet had little to show for it.
