I'm just amazed nobody has been discussing this at all. Though we only saw to blips on it, once on the news (local) and once briefly on yahoo (which is set for AK news). Thinking media trying to keep it under wraps

These SoCals came in and underbid and in order to underbid and take the job from Alaskans they hired and brought (flew) in illegal immigrants to do the job "Americans don't want to do." No hiring of Alaskans- hell not even hiring Americans especially in this economy when many, many Americans are still trying to find work.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTVA-CBS 11 News) A contractor hired for a major construction project on Elmendorf Air Force Base broke both state and federal law.
At issue: the illegal immigrants that were granted access to the base to help construct the Air Force's new F-22 hangars.
This summer the Air Force started a multi-million dollar effort to build new F-22 hangars on Elmendorf Air Force Base. The contractor hired for the steel work was Steel System Erectors out of California.
An investigation has reviled the company employed undocumented workers and allowed them access to a national security site.
A "critical infrastructure site essential to national security." That is how the federal government describes Elmendorf Air Force Base.
At each entrance, security checks the ids and has the right to search the vehicles of all who enter the base. So then, how were illegal immigrants with forged and expired documents granted access?
"I do not have a clue how a contractor was able to take these individuals onto a military base, constructing a building for one of our most sophisticated fighter planes." Says Ironworkers Local 751 President/Organizer John Lewis.
Lewis noticed this summer that Steel System Erectors out of southern California had not hired any local workers. In fact, he found the company flew 30 employees from California to Alaska for the job. "For you to be able to bid a job and win it with the cost of air fare and housing for that many men raises a huge red flag that something- there's another area where you are cheating," says Lewis, "Either your cutting costs on workers comp, or you are misclassifying your workers."

There was another thread on this topic. Not only are they working here, but also at airports. Heck, for all we know, they may even be employed at the White House.

corporations are using them simply to avoid paying minimum wage (illegal). They want to pay the cheapest salary for a job humanly possible even if illegal. They don't treat the illegal workers that well, but they're ok with it and don't complain so....they prefer them to American unemployed workers.

This is really disgusting. On a Military Base! The nerve of the company that's got the contract to fly in illegals to work on a military base!

It would seem to me that the contracting officer responsible for this job is either on the take, or totally incompetent.

At the least, the company is providing fraudulent payroll reports.

Security issues aside, several things appear to not be in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations.

That company should be investigated and placed on a PERMANENT GOVT CONTRACTOR BLACKLIST. They should never again get the chance to work with their illegals for the govt.
