Ran across this article in the NWI TIMES.

Looks like a nice addition for Peoria.
This must have been lost among the rumblings of what is precieved as their dislike towards Illinois.

Looks like CAT is at least proud of their own home of Peoria.

The Cat museum/visitor center has been in the works since The Block was on the drawing board. I think the total investment is near $600M.

Yeah, so much for all those naysayers predicting doom and gloom upon the previous income tax increase. I guess they forgot to check that neighboring states still had higher income taxes...

The facility looks good!

The museum and CAT visitor center was a vision long before the economic downturn. All that did was delay it while smaller projects: zoo, Bradley, hospitals, streets and roads, etc., were finished.

Well, with all the new CAT plants going into low tax states like Texas, your statement isn't too valid.

So you mean to say that if the income tax increase hadn't come to pass (which was the particular tax increase to which I was referring) that CAT would have built all of those new plants in IL? I doubt it. I think the reason why CAT chose to build in TX is probably a bit more complex, and TX seems to be a great place to find very cheap labor, to skirt around environmental regulation, and to avoid paying out benefits...

I don't think CAT is avoiding paying benefits. They do not pay benefits the same way as they did in the 1980s.
