Hi.

I am planning to transfer to Illinois next month and I want to settle there. I am looking for a good place to live where the crime rate was low.

Is there anyone help me? I really appreciate your help.

What is your budget for rent? Do you own a car or do you need public transportation?. Where is your employer located? The name of street and town is enough information.

Illinois is a large state by most standards. Where you work will probably dictate where you live unless you work from home in which case your territory will be a key factor.

There is not enough information to be more specific.

Just don't move to East St. Louis or Peoria and you'll be fine.

Illinois is a big state. It stretches from Wisconsin to Kentucky with the concomitant cultural, weather, and geographic differences you might expect at each end. Perhaps you could be more specific in what you're looking for, why you're moving, budget, etc.?

Actually I am selecting various cities in Illinois where the best place to live. I own a car and I want the nearest possible from my workplace.

Thank you for your responses. I think I need more budget in order to move.

If you won't give basic information such as where your workplace is, we can't help you...

In 2012 there was a list of the 25 most dangerous cities in America with a population of over 100000 that was culled from 2011 data. St. Louis, Indy, plus Springfield and Rockford Illinois were listed.

Because Illinois is an Ag state there are few large pockets of dense population outside of Chicago/Cook County that offers the convenience of shopping, medical, and quality entertainment in relative safety. Urbana-Champaign, Bloomington-Normal and Peoria are centrally located. Bloomington-Normal is midway between Peoria and Urbana-Champaign. Peoria, a STEM and research city is the largest and oldest city in the Illinois River Valley. But B-N ad U-C are our largest university communities outside of those in Chicago and Cook County.

Theoretically, living in small farm towns are much safer, and you can leave your doors unlocked at night. The downside is you're isolated and 50 miles from quality shopping. It does not mean you are 50 miles from crime, nor does it mean that police and fire protection is nearby. Truth be known the act of living is, in itself, inherently dangerous.

IL is a pretty big place with vastly different situations, it would be helpful if it was narrowed down to a region.

Since his home page is a shoe company in Cook/DuPage. , I would suppose this cagey boy from New York City is going to attempt to sell high fashion woman's shoes to Chicago. I guess he doesn't know Chicagoans go to the same NY runway shows his boss does. Even the furriers downstate go to the NY runway shows for ≈women's fashions and furs.

I think almost all cities in Illinois are mostly safe. There are patches here and there that are unsafe but overall, most are safe except maybe East St. Louis. I'd never go to Decatur either but that's just me. If I had my pick of places to live in Illinois it would be the Carbondale area or St. Louis Metro East area (O'Fallon, Fairview Heights, etc), or Metropolis. My reasons are mainly because of milder winter weather.

If you don't care about climate Bloomington and Champaign/Urbana are pretty nice cities, they seem like clean, low crime cities. I live in Springfield and I'm perfectly happy here (my only complaint being the cold). The unsafe part of Springfield is part of the east side. You can tell pretty quick by driving through it which parts.
